Re: Stories of the Pilgrims...he doesn't pay attention??
I tried to have him follow along on that third day, but he got distracted with the fuzz on his pants or whatever and quit following. His older brother isn't good at following along either (we do practice that skill sometimes when we do Bible reading together). However, today I decided to have him cl...

Stories of the Pilgrims...he doesn't pay attention??
I am in week 3 of Beyond with my 6yo first grade ds. We just read Stories of the Pilgrims for the third day...I think, and he is just not interested in listening. If I read one paragraph and then asked what happened in that paragraph, he "doesn't remember". So I came on here to see how other parents...

Re: "Done with phonics"?
Still thinking on this one: He is doing some phonics-based spelling, but very little of it. He can easily decode to the end of TRL, so I'm not sure if we need to go back and figure out where to start explaining why the words work that way. He can't do the end of Ordinary Parents' Guide yet (though h...

"Done with phonics"?
What does it mean to be "done with phonics?" I am trying to figure out what to do with my 6yo ds (well, he will be 6 in 3 days). He places very solidly in Beyond, so I am considering using Beyond. He is ready for the emerging readers set. But we've not exactly DONE phonics. We did MFW K this year, m...

Re: Dictation level placement
Thanks. So.....I guess I'll just look at the passages and see what looks like what might be right? He is a natural speller, and also seems to memorize things after looking at them pretty well. So I'm really not sure how this will go. I will maybe try and see where there may be words he might not kno...

Dictation level placement
I am planning on using Preparing for my 9yo ds next fall. I've gotten my hands on a guide, and everything looks great -- but I'm unsure how to know what dictation level is right for him? He has done dictation ala PLL, and memory verse dictation, and typically does very well....how do I decide where ...

Re: Such a hard decision I need to make. Will you help?
We had to make a similar decision with our oldest, except he wasn't already in any continuous grade-based activities (like Awana --- and our Sunday school is a bit wider age-range so it didn't mean a whole different group of kids while everyone else moved on together). I would have held him back for...
