What to do when you don't finish???
We have had a great three weeks so far with Bigger, but while I'm always diligent to cover reading, math, grammar and spelling/dictation, we don't always get to storytime, some of the history or science. Especially the two days a month that we have a co-op. What do you all do when you miss a day? Do...

Bigger History Reading...difficult for your dc?
We've just begun Unit 2 of Bigger in our first year using HOD. So far, my dds (7 and 8 ) are doing well with everything...except they are having problems with the First Book in American History selections. My oldest dd has excellent comprehension and narration skills and she has some trouble with th...

Re: Need help with 2 yo and failed plans!
Thanks so much for the kind words of advice. I have put onsies on my Walmart list...I found him naked when I went to get him up from nap today  And having the girls take turns going upstairs with him to play in his room (we school downstairs) was a great suggestion. Sorry for sounding like a cr...

Need help with 2 yo and failed plans!
After reading lots of great posts about what to do with littles (i.e., my very active 2 yo son) while teaching the olders (who aren't really that old at 5, 7 and 8 ) I am really frusturated :? I had lots of todder activities planned for him, and I even bought a few new things. With his 15 second att...

Re: LHTH or LHFHG for almost 5 yr old (bday in Oct)
I have a friend who tried to start LHFHG with a girl turning 5 in October and they were stalled out by fine-motor skills. She had a LOT of difficulty writing the numbers, which the workbook wants them to do. Especially the workbook just gives them little boxes to write it in. My DD was 5.5 when we ...

Bigger Unit 1 vocabulary typo?
Just checking, but are the vocaulary words for Unit 1 "standard" instead of "stranded" and "impostor" instead of "imposter" (or does this have an alternate spelling?). I can understand how a manual this lengthy is bound to contain a few errors so is there a place or post that has corrections? Thanks...

Re: LHTH or LHFHG for almost 5 yr old (bday in Oct)
I have a dd who will be 5 in Sept. She also know letter sounds, reads CVC words, knows her numbers and counts to 100. Like your dd, she writes all the letters because she's learned from older siblings. I purchased and planned to use LHFHG with her. However, after a week, I have put it on the shelf u...

Re: Combining storytime...am I overlooking anything?
Carrie,
Thank you so much for your reply. So, what I hear you saying is that using these three guides (LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger) would not be a problem this year, but it will become a problem next year b/c of the amount of work for me using Beyond, Bigger and Preparing? Thanks for the clarification!

Combining storytime...am I overlooking anything?
Hi there, We will be a three guide family this fall...Little Hearts, Beyond, and Bigger. I know these are subsequent guides, but I just could not combine any of mine b/c up until this point I've always either drug someone along or held someone back. After reading this board for a while, I am going t...

Re: Struggling with Singapore.
If I can give you any encouragment or advice, I will say stick with it. I have a degree in math, and I think that Singapore is more difficult for some children because they have to actually think and understand the concept instead of just memorizing or counting on (as in your example of addition). M...

Using Right Side of Preparing 2 years in a row?
We will be using HOD for the first time in a couple of months. I will use LHFHG with my kindergartener and Bigger with my 2nd and 3rd graders. My 3rd grader will need the dictation/spelling from something more advanced than Bigger (I already have this guide and she would be on the last spelling and ...

Re: how do I know which level for DITHOR and other ???
Melissa, I think you responded to one of my posts b/c I have 3 dds same ages as yours and a ds who will be 2 next week :D I will also be using Bigger with dd 8 (she'll be 9 in Nov.) and dd6 (will be 7 in Aug). My dd 8 is also a more advanced reader and reads on the 4/5 level. I didn't look for the p...

Re: A Couple of questions
am thinking of doing both Singapore and Horizons math K programs with my DD this fall. I would follow the Singapore schedule in LHFHG, but also do a lesson of Horizons as well. Anyone else done this or used two math programs at once? I like aspects from both programs and think they would complement...
