Re: Placement help for gifted 5yo, struggling 8yo

Oh life with a big family, Sue. Never a dull moment, huh? I have similar dynamics with a few of mine. DD4 is already reading some, writing lots, and breezing through ETC A, B, and C which I count as my are they ready for K indicator. DD 6 just started to read about 6 months ago, and it really bugs h...

Re: HOD and the gifted child

Thanks ladies for your help. I was just uncertain when people were saying that children should be in the upper age range to successfully do each guide. She won't be 8 until September, so if she were in public school here she would be a rising 2nd grader. She is really more like a rising 4th grader i...

Re: Such a hard decision I need to make. Will you help?

We have a 4's and 5's SS class and a K SS class at our church. When it is time for promotion into K when our children are on the bubble, we look at the kids promoting and the kids staying, and then look to see which group our kids are most connected to. For my 7 yo, she is absolutley the youngest in...

HOD and the gifted child

OK, maybe this has been discussed. I am wondering if there were ever considerations for gifted children and HOD. I am going to do Bigger with my rising 8 yo, and my books came yesterday. I keep reading over and over that the guides are meaty and they should be at the older end of the age spectrum. A...

Re: Going BACK a guide?

Sue, it is funny meeting you over here on this board now. Anyway, just some encouragement. We have always been in a similar place children wise, and now I am doing three guides because it is the only thing that really works. My older 3 are doing their own thing, but my 5, 7 and 8 years olds are all ...

Re: Free Shipping???? Book Sub?

You have to order $400 or more to receive free shipping. There is also a shipping break of only $10 for shipping when ordering $300-$399. You are allowed one book substitution in the economy and deluxe packages when ordering Beyond. Do you have a catalog? If you don't you can request one on the web...

Re: Seriously considering adding a guide for next year. . .

I un-combined my middle two after Christmas last year.... luckily with their ages and guides it was easy to just start them at the beginning of each guide. I will be using Bigger, Beyond, and LHFHG together for a couple of months next fall before I will have one beginning Preparing in January, on i...

Free Shipping???? Book Sub?

I have heard about both of these and am excited. I have Beyond in my shopping cart and there is no mention of free shipping anywhere. Is it just not an option anymore? And if you are ordering, how does the book sub work? Thanks so much for helping a newbie out.

Re: Latin and Greek

I would highly recommend Latin for Children. I would not start before Preparing. The grammar is intense and should correspond well with R & S 4 or something equivalent.

Re: Seriously considering adding a guide for next year. . .

I understand what you are talking about with being close in age but academically too far apart for combining to be in their best interest. My oldest two are only 18 months apart. I combined them for the beginning years. I finally realized I was not challenging the oldest while over challenging the ...

Re: Seriously considering adding a guide for next year. . .

Thanks for the replies. I know it seems like it makes more sense to combine but it always someone is over challenged or underchalleged. We have been doing MFW for 2 years and it just isn't working meeting all the ages. However, there are alot of ages to cover. I don't know. In an ideal world, I'd do...

Seriously considering adding a guide for next year. . .

Am I completely crazy? I keep seeing others doing 3 guides and I keep wondering if I should. I have my dd turning 5 doing LHFHG and I was going to combine my 7 and 8 yo in Bigger, though they are pretty far apart academically. I know my 7 yo would love Beyond, but is that even doable? I know they di...

Beyond vs Bigger

Hello, I just joined the boards as I am strongly considering HOD for my younger bunch for next year. I am trying to decide between Beyond and Bigger for my girls who will be 7 and 8 (pretty much 1st/ 2nd and 3rd/4th) in the fall. Here is the situation. My 8 yo is wildly advanced for her grade--truly...
