Re: R&S done orally or written....? Carrie could you comment?
Thank you Carrie. We switched our plans around today and did much more of the lesson orally and it went very well (and quicker!). I appreciate your advice on this subject - and everyone else's as well! I just have to say that my family is LOVING HOD. You have really blessed our family by the work yo...

Re: R&S done orally or written....? Carrie could you comment?
Julie, Thank you I really appreciate your thorough answer. My oldest is in level 4 this year and we will be finishing it up in the fall. Your post gave me a great way to gauge what we've been doing, I will plan to reduce the amount of writing I've asked of her (she hasn't complained it just takes up...

Re: R&S done orally or written....? Carrie could you comment?
Thanks Edwena. :D Do you know if this is the plan for all the levels? What I mean is, as the kids age is the expectation to continue just doing 1/3 written? I know there is a large amount of writing across the curriculum so I am completely fine with doing it orally, I just want to make sure I'm not ...

R&S done orally or written....? Carrie could you comment?
Hi there, I posted this question on the HOD yahoo board and received nice input from the moms there, but I would like to ask here too and hopefully get Carrie's advice. I am currently using R&S English 4 with my dd. We will not finish by end of school year (we began it in October and are about 1/2 w...

Just ordered for next year!!!!
I'm so excited! I just placed my order for next year (CTC) and I can't wait for Box day! Next year we'll be doing (and yes, I may be insane here....): LHTH with dd 5 and dd 4 and ds 2 (well....mostly he'll be running around but you know....), Beyond (1/2 pace) with ds 6, Bigger with dd 8 and CTC wit...

Re: how to use materials from 2 levels
I can't comment on PHFHG since we haven't gotten to it yet, but we're using Bigger for my oldest dd 9. She was ahead in her language arts and math, so I just put a sticky note on top of those boxes in the Bigger manual and write in her lessons. She's in R&S English 4 and we are using Spelling Wisdom...

Re: How do I plan for this - combining kiddos?
I think I will do LHFHG with the older 2 with K and 1st and then let them move ahead together and then keep the younger 2 together eventually. I will do LHTH with my DD who will be 4 starting in the fall just so she feels included too.
Thanks everyone for your advice!
Blessings,
Caryn

If you didn't know about the extension set here's a link:
http://heartofdakota.com/bigger-hearts-packages.php
The extension pack is scheduled in the Appendix of the Bigger Guide for you as well.

Re: So torn between Bigger and Preparing...
Well, you can take my opinion for what it's worth since we haven't actually STARTED Bigger yet...but we will this week. :D My oldest is 4th grade this year and we were doing Ambleside Online Year 4 but we've just made the switch to HOD. I will be combining her with her younger sister who is 7. My ol...

Here is a link to the Rod and Staff site where you can view samples: http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/item/1-122--/?list=Building_Christian_English_Series It's a link to the 2nd grade level. I really love R&S English! And to answer your question, yes Rod and Staff is completely black and white with o...

How do I plan for this - combining kiddos?
I will be starting Bigger next week with my oldest 2 kids: DD 9 and DD 7. I will be using the extension pack with my oldest as this will carry over into her 5th grade year. I'm wondering what to do about my next 3 kids. I'd like to minimize how many different programs I'm using at one time, those ki...

Re: Can I skip Preparing?
Thank you everyone for your quick replies. Now I'm REALLY struggling though....by the placement chart my oldest should probably be in Preparing NOW...the only area she is weak in is narrating - which would be improved over the course of the year. The big problem? My husband lost his job 6 months ago...

Can I skip Preparing?
Hi all, We are about to start Bigger with my 9 and 7 year olds and by the time we're finished I'll have kids aged: 10 1/2, 8 1/2, 6 1/2, 5, 4 and 2. We've used the CM method pretty well throughout my oldest's schooling (she's currently 4th grader) but she needs a lot of work on narrations. We were a...
