How much to help child with DITHR
My dd is 7 and we just started DITHR level 2/3 for 2nd grade. She has been through LHFHG and Beyond already. So she has some background in the discussions about genre and literary characteristics. The writing it out for the student workbook is new and challenging though. How much would be advisable ...

Re: Listening comprehension in LHFHG
We loved this fox toilet paper roll craft and I think it helped her acting out the story, by the way And the picture of a live red fox too.

Re: Listening comprehension in LHFHG
I totally agree, it's a learning curve. Huge leaps and bounds this year with my daughter (6 in Feb, finishing LHFHG next week/end of K). Coloring pictures of the animals may help, so will the acting out that's sometimes prompted in the storytime box.

Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
So I found some 1st grade level resources to use with any book, and I will have her narrate. We will work from the list in Beyond for "after emerging readers." Her reading level is great but comprehension and analysis not so much. I found DITHOR used and got the manual to evaluate when we'll be read...

Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
1) Just have him read the Level 2 DITHOR books and make up questions on the fly. 2) Read the Level 2 books and answer some of the DITHOR discussion questions orally, using the DITHOR manual as more of an idea/reference book. 3) Read the Level 2 books and have him do the DITHOR discussions and activ...

Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
I went through the Beyond ER section again, to see how many of the supplemental books we had read. I found a halfpage after the last ER book titled "Additional Beginning Chapter Books" that says it is for after finishing ER's, to ease the child's transition into chapter books. Hello! Wonder why this...

Re: Reader placement
I posted almost the same question, except we have already done the emerging readers (actually, we will finish in May). So I don't have a solution, but I want to find out what others say. I have a dd6 who reads really well but still needs practice with the ER level of questions. I don't feel she's re...

Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
Thanks for the suggestions. I thought I was being so smart and getting the additional titles for her to read in free time as we went along. So she's already read those and I was hoping somebody could recommend something different, something that was already planned out with questions again. I can se...

Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
Hi, My just turned 6 year old is in LHFHG for K, but we did the ERs as scheduled in Beyond since she was already reading at the beginning of the year (last summer). So her reading is great, but she still needs practice in answering questions like the ERs have written for them. She is NOT going to be...

Re: workbooks and textbooks in LHFHG
thanks - I'm nitpicky enough to have done that but hadn't had time! Now I know!Dustybug wrote:I wondered the same thing, so I actually went through the whole LHFHG guide and wrote down all The World God Made pages to see. All were used except maybe 3-4.
Thanks everybody

workbooks and textbooks in LHFHG
I'm curious about something. Looking at the guide just a little bit, I see that we don't necessarily go through the books and workbooks in order (science especially). So can anyone tell me if we are actually going to cover all of The World God Made, or will there be pages we never do? And what about...

Re: It's a five day program- should I make it 4?
If you do only 4 days a week in a 5 day program, does it mess with your head that the units aren't wrapping up neatly in a Monday-Friday week? (I'm assuming only one day's plans out of the guides are done each day.) I plan to do 5 day weeks, but I know there will be many times where dr appts, field ...

spelling in Beyond
Hi, I have a question about LHFHG and Beyond. I'm planning to start LHFHG this August with my 5yo. She's already done a year of phonics and reads pretty well (but she has a tendency to guess on longer words). We are past the point of the phonics books in LHFHG, but I don't want to just take a year o...
