Re: History in Preparing
We do Preparing with our oldest. He reads his history by himself and has to narrate a summary to me. That is with the exception of Grandpa's Box. We read that together. I would do this again in a heartbeat and cannot wait for my other children to get to do that book too. It has drawn us closer toget...

Re: Summer Bridge Activities?
My kids do Math 3x per week in the summer. Are required to read each day as well. Then we add things in like Typing, extra Science experiments.
Last year we tried blogging but failed at being consistent with it. So, this year I am putting it into a schedule 2x per week.

Re: PHFHG science ?...?
My son writes his answers in complete sentences. That is my bias. And, I do in fact correct his grammar. I make him rewrite or add commas, etc. I figure more practice in grammar can never hurt! LOL

Re: Suggestions for Beyond Reading...
We had that situation with our middle one last year. We were not using HOD yet, but most of the emerging readers he had already read. And, when we began Beyond this year, it was harder to select where to begin for books. So, we have done our own thing for the fall. In January we will start on one of...

Well, Ann, if you are an online junkie, I am an online junkie and a laptop junkie. We have 3 different laptops. One is mine and mine alone for scrapbooking. It is the one I use to check emails and surf online. But, school work is not done on it as to keep as much off the memory as possible. We have ...

Re: How do you do the storytime in your guides?
I have one in Preparing (we read this together) and one in Beyond. We have mixed this into the day as I juggle between them and their preschool sister. They like it and we usually sneak to the bedroom to read and cuddle while we do it. It is a special time. I don't plan to move it to before bed beca...

Praising HOD for Helping With the Spiritual Growth of Son!
I am so blessed and so thankful God led us to HOD. :) It is has been an amazing year so far. Our oldest is in Preparing with Extensions. He is almost 12. This is his 2nd year homeschooling. While we have always worked hard to help him understand the word and God's desire to know him, we felt like he...

Re: Why are you homeschooling?
We began homeschooling in the Spring of 2010. That meant my then 4th grader and kindergartener were schooling at home for the first time. So some of my answers come from the experience of shifting their experiences from public school to meet our goals. 1. Because we are following God's call for us. ...

Re: OT: Child's computer - help with HOD?
Last year we purchased a gift for the homeschool....not one child in particular. (We wanted to end all arguments about whose computer it is.) It was a Dell Laptop. It allows us to do our math programs on it, typing for the middle, internet research (Preparing Guide), creative writing (I require olde...

Preparing...How Much Time?
Okay, I have an 11 1/2 year old doing Preparing. This is our first year doing HOD. We specifically chose Preparing at the suggestion of several friends who say that has been their favorite guide for their children in terms of really growing a relationship with God. So we started there but added exte...

Re: Question about mulitiplication memorization
With our younger son, he has learned his addition and subtraction facts. However, if we don't keep working them, he starts to drag a little and forgets them. So, we now do fact drills 3x a week. it is helping and making a difference. That may not be the approach some would use, but I would do that w...

Re: I need to find a new place to vent
I would probably agree with you that facebook may not be the best place to vent. However, that said, I would look at whom you have on facebook. I post about hoemschooling unashamedly. I even posted yesterday how wonderful it is that we can start at whatever time because we all slept in. Today, I pos...
