Re: Help me salvage this school year! (Very long)
I just read an article about how Finland's schools/student are way ahead of the US and yet they don't start formal education until age 7. I think we have become so ingrained to believe that we must start much younger at 3 and 4 for the kids to be "prepared"...If this is true why are kids not graduat...

Re: get their eyes checked!
I'm curious, did they just prescribe regular reading glasses? Our ds (dyslexic) has good vision too according to the eye doctor but I'm just wondering if it would help. We can't afford any specialist at this time.

Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
This theory was new to me as well when we starting Preparing. I've always wondered about the Ice Age and when it took place but never took the time to study it. It really makes sense and once we read The Wooly Mammoth is was an eye opener for me. I think we have been products of secular education fo...

Re: Should I do DITHOR with my dyslexic ds?
I sympathize with you. We are in the same situation with my ds10. He's reading level is really low. I decided to wait on using DITHOR for the time being. The problem I have is getting books he can read on his own but not seem too "babyish" for his age/interests.

DITHOR for dyslexic??
This is our first year with HOD. I wanted to get our feet wet first before looking into DITHOR. Now I'm ready but ds10 is dyslexic and is currently reading around 2.4 level...and even that is not fluent. We are making progress but it is slooooow. From what I see, the students are to read the books o...

Re: Ds has fallen behind, how can I get him caught up?
I could have written your post as well. I did (am doing)alot of learning the ropes too. To make matters worse for me is my closest friends are school teachers! So when I hear them discuss school stuff I get a knot in my stomach and think maybe I've done a disservice to my kids by pulling them out of...

request for audiobooks
Has anyone developed a list for available audio-books that coincide with the guides or just for fun? We have just recently started listening to them while traveling around town in the car. My boys love it! I wish I would have started this sooner. They don't want me to stop the car so they can keep l...

Made cornmeal patties on heated rocks!
We're almost finished with unit 4 and I have to admit that I'm learning a lot too. I struggled with which program to use (juggling between Bigger) and I'm glad I decided on Preparing...although my 9 yr old is a struggling reader. And the extensions have been great for my 11 yr.old. I will say that I...

Re: disrespect...need consequence ideas
I have a somewhat similar problem but not as "severe" as what you are describing. My youngest is 9 and definitely has the strong personality and he will push to a certain point but he knows where my limits are and how "severe" his punishment can be if he does push too far:) I don't know your situati...

could someone send link on preparing vs bigger
I'm having some 2nd thoughts on which guide to use with my boys ages 9 and almost 11. There was a link I read a month or so ago where someone posted what the kids would be doing in a typical day in each of the programs. I would like to see this again if anyone knows where it is.
Thanks
Cheryl

I cry easy too at stuff like that too but to add to the problem my eyes are swollen for the next 24 hours! I have to really watch when I see a sad movie.

Re: Emerging Reader question...
YES it does! One more question...if he reads the ER's this summer just for "fun", I'm hoping by fall he will be ready for the next level. (I will be using bigger) But if I do this that mess up our lessons for when we actually use the program in the fall. I'm still confused on how everything works an...
