Re: Should I wait on spelling?

Yes he is able to read the words. He does struggle with reading though, but these simple words he reads just fine. His struggle with reading seems to be bigger words that are all together in a sentence. By the time he gets to the end of a line he has forgotten what he read about. :( He seemed to lik...

Should I wait on spelling?

Some of you may recall my placement thread last weekend. Well, we decided to combine my 7yob and 5yog in LHFHG. I am very pleased with this and think it is the best. But, dh really wants to challenge our 7yob a little more than what 5yog is getting. Mainly just because he is 2 years older and he thi...

Re: Do I have the right placement? Second guessing.

Or.....

Should I have him do Beyond 1/2 speed? Would I have him do it literally 1/2 speed or have him do his phonics and handwriting every day but do the other stuff 1/2?

Re: Do I have the right placement? Second guessing.

Thanks Angie. That is helpful. That is right along what I was thinking. Oh I just don't know. ack! ********** I just had him do a few spelling words out of list 1 Beyond. He could spell the word immediately, but when he wrote it he had to ask me "what word?" after each letter. Of course my 5yo wante...

Re: Do I have the right placement? Second guessing.

So when you combine for Beyond and later how does it work? I already have the boy and girl interest sets of books for example. Would I just do them both? What about when children are older and they are combined? Do they just schedule some of their independent work at alternating times or what?

Do I have the right placement? Second guessing.

I am really second guessing things. Even though my 9yog (June bday) is a great reader she struggles with cursive and I really want her to get a good handle on working more independently this year using Bigger. So I am 99% sure that is where she should be. My 5yog (March bday) fits perfectly into LHF...

Bumping this great post!

Question for Julie - So you just have ONE binder for all the notebooking and it's separated by tabs for each section?

Thanks for the pictures. I am very visual as well.

Re: What if your child won't be ready? (high school)

My oldest is in the same shoes as your younger son. She just turned 9yo in June. I think she could do all the reading in Preparing but she is just not quite ready for the independence and all the writing.

Family Timline?

Has anyone ever done a family timeline? I will have 2 children in levels that are doing their own personal timeline. I am considering doing a family timeline at some point and unsure if/when to begin it. I was thinking we would add things to it from school but also from other things that we just com...

What if your child won't be ready? (high school)

What if a child is about a year "behind" in the levels? How does it even out by high school? Do you....? -keep trudging along in order and whatever you do by the time they graduate is what you accomplish? -skip a level at some point and get started in the 4 years of high school their freshman year? ...

Is a book ever duplicated?

**nevermind I got my answer!**

Is a book ever used more than one place in HOD?

ie., Used in DITHOR and as a story time book in a lower level.

Re: organizing non consumables for future use?

I'm wondering if I *need* a pocket for each unit or if I can fudge it a bit with a smaller number of pockets. Lots of them have 21 pockets. Then there are some smaller and some larger.

Re: organizing non consumables for future use?

I have laminated letter cards that are 8.5 x 11 from Handwriting Without Tears. I'm thinking I'll just use those for LHTH.
