Re: Week In Review 3-27-09

Our schoolwork was a little sparse this week due to a birthday, dental appointments, etc. We've doubled up on a few days in anticipation of a couple busy weeks. Luke really surprised me when he loved the book about William Shakespeare & asked if he could go ahead and finish it in one setting. We sta...

Re: Looking for Viking movies to go along with Preparing

We were able to get the IMAX movie from the library - Vikings Journey to New Worlds. If you get a chance, it's a great movie to watch after reading Leif the Lucky. Part of the movie is told from Leif's point of view.

Re: Week In Review 2-26-09

I'm afraid that I haven't been keeping up with my blog as well as I should this month. So, our weekly update is a monthly update! http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/wdworkman/664612/ Luke was sad to see Grandpa's Box end, but he really enjoyed Raiders of the Sea too. I promised him that we would read ...

Looking for Viking movies to go along with Preparing

My son is really enjoying Raiders from the Sea & Leif the Lucky in Preparing. I've been trying to think of some Viking-type movies that we could watch just for fun. Any ideas?

Our last weekly blog entry for 2008:

It's been a wonderful break, but I'm getting anxious to start our school schedule again. We should be back to 'normal' on January 5th.

Re: Never thought I'd be saying this... (a little long)

Tamara, Would getting help with the house instead of schooling be an option? I hesitated to suggest it because I know my reaction would be "We can't possibly afford that!", but compared to school tuition - or even public school lunches, book fees, etc. - once a month cleaning service might be a bett...

Re: Week In Review 12-5-08

I haven't updated my blog lately because my digital camera was broken. My new one came in the mail yesterday, so I managed to post a couple today. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/wdworkman/628518/ We're officially on our Christmas schedule now - Reading Christmas stories, copy work from the Christm...

Christmas Book Ideas

I think we're going to take at least a couple of weeks off in December to just do Christmas stories, crafts, etc. Do you have any favorite Christmas books at about the 3rd-5th grade reading level?

Re: Where should my friend move to?

Illinois First the good points: We don't have to report anything in Illinois. Sounds about like Texas - we're considered a private school and the school district has no authority over us. My first contact with the public school was when my daughter took driver's ed this year. I live in a small town...

Has anyone tried a different math & english schedule?

It seems like whichever subject my 10 yos does second, Math or English, gets less attention and effort. So, I'm considering doing one or the other on alternating days. Of course, that would mean usually covering two Math lessons one day and two English lessons the next day. Has anyone tried this? Di...

Re: Give your opinion on developing Bible quiet time habit

What would you like to see within your child's daily quiet time? I think I'd like to have some definite objectives for quiet time each day. Think about how you can show this trait in your life today; think about ways you can glorify God when doing errands this week; think about how you can touch so...

Re: How do I fix this???

I have a 10 yos with a lot of the same problems. At your sons age, he had every symptom listed on the dyslexic & dysgraphic check list. I've continued to work with him SLOWLY on his reading & the dyslexic symptoms have definitely improved. The writing we're still working on. He sounds a lot like you...

Re: Organizing my HOD!

How do you guys organize your HOD? Most of the HOD books are in the dining room/school room bookcase. The ones that we're currently reading are in a basket on a table next to the couch (I usually go through & update that about once a week). Luke's notebooks, and any work in progress, are in his des...

Re: Week In Review 10-9-08

We finally finished unit 6 of Preparing this week. This one took a while to get through - not because of the work, just normal family things going on (colds, field trip, cub scout projects, trips to Grandpa's house, etc.). The Egyptian pastries were definitely a hit. :D We had to postpone Friday's e...
