Re: Skills need to start Preparing
Mom2monkeys, I found your post to be very coherent. I agree with your statement of just because they can do the work, doesn't mean they should. But, for this child he wants to do the work. I really do appreciate your thoughts on our placement, they are giving me a lot to think about. I am also aware...

Re: Skills need to start Preparing
Mom2monkeys, thank you for clearing up my confusion about the independent history and the extensions. It is helpful for me to know that both boys will do the independent history whether we use the extensions or not. I understand you concerns about placing my middle in the Preparing Guide and I do ap...

Re: Emerging Readers - Nature Reader is long for ds
When my boys read Nature Reader it got long for us too. I found that if I would do one or two days of Nature Reader and alternate with the alternate book for the week it really helped. It did take us a little longer to get through the book. There were a few times that I would have them practice read...

Re: Skills need to start Preparing
Yes, my boys are currently 6 and 8, soon to be 7 and 9. My middle is young, but I do think he is ready and if it is notworking I will drop him back. Currently, he is in Singapore 2B, R&S 2, doing dictation with Spelling Wisdom, Hey Andrew Teach Me Some Greek Level 3, reading with comprehension at a ...

Skills need to start Preparing
I am planning on starting Preparing in the fall with two of my boys. I am wondering what skills we might be missing because we have not done Bigger. I remember reading something about vocabulary - something we have not really done, but could work on this spring. I have been studying the placement ch...

Planning on starting LHFHG but I have a few ???
I am planning on starting Little Hearts this coming fall with my youngest -he will be kindergarten age. However, he is already reading. He is currently working through the emergent reader list. By fall, he will also be ready to start Sinagpore Math 1A and ready to start coping sentences. So, in many...

Placement Question
I am trying to decide where to place my boys next year. At this point we are not currently using HOD although I did use Little Hearts two years ago with my oldest. The following year we started Beyond but didn't get very far once school became very frustrating. I continued with the level of work in ...

Re: DITHOR quick question
I would recommend picking a book that she has not read. The questions I feel help more in understanding the genre. The reading for me is to help push my son along on what he is reading. He is the type of kid that is content with the same level books but with encouragement will push himself.

Re: Really enjoying the Thinking Skills Grade 1 book!
We also really enjoyed the Thinking Skills book when my oldest went through LHFHG. I remember thinking there is no way he will be able to do some of the activites at the end, but by the time we got there he was more than ready.

Re: Week In Review September 4, 2009
Our week was a successful week. We started our Folk Tale unit in DITHOR. My son loved reading How Droofus the Dragon Lost His Head on day 1. Then we started the King's Equal. He is not so sure about this book but seems to be enjoying it. My highlight came today when we talked through the worksheet f...

Re: Question that's a bit off topic.........
I also am finding this harder as my oldest gets older. Although when he is asked what grade he is in and what school he attends. He answers very nicely and that floors most people because they seem to be expecting me to answer for him. I have noticed the most looks while grocery shopping - usually b...

DITHOR Scheduling Question
I am getting ready to start Folk Tale with my son. I have used DITHOR for Humor and non-fiction, both times one book easy to schedule. This time I am looking at using multiple books. I currently have Bears on Hemlock Mountain and The Minstrel in the Tower chosen. I can schedule these two books fine ...

Re: Would my plan work for my children?
Looks like your plan would work, yet it also looks like you are making it harder than you need to. I can tell that you have thought very carefully about where your children should be placed. My thought is why not combine your oldest 2 in Bigger. Then if your daughter still needs more history and sci...

Re: questions about DITHOR
I have not used both, but i have used DITHOR. Yes the workbooks are very important to the program. I understand what you are saying about not wanting to add more pen and paper work to the day. I did a couple of things to help. I tried to fit the more writing sheets on lower writing days if I could o...

Re: DITHR: How to assign pages with multiple short books
My understanding is if you are reading 3 books, each book is read over 5 days and you just do the student pages based on the book you are reading. If you chose 2 books, one book is read for 5 days and the other for 10 days, there again just do the student pages based on the book you are reading. HTH
