Re: Extra things made by you to ease your school day
We do a variation of that. I made a page that resembles the boxes in the teachers manual, each with just the subject written at the top of it. Each is a different color. I also include an "extra" box for things like "practice violin" or "Awana". I make one sheet per child at the beginning of the sch...

Thank you for recommending Stepping Heavenward
I can't remember where I read it, but someone here recommended this book and I just finished it. Wow! It is such a great and inspiring book about a woman who learned how to truly love others and how to make her will God's will. I really appreciate all of the great information here on this board abou...

Re: How much writing for Beyond?
Thank You! I have probably asked too many questions about placement here but I just keep second guessing myself. I agree. I think I'll do beyond and modify if I need to. Thanks for the tip about the writing!

How much writing for Beyond?
Hi, I am trying to place my dd 6 for next year, when she will be a first grader. She is an excellent reader and will have completed Rod & Staff's phonics and reading 1 when the school year is over this year. Writing is not her best subject, well it is typical of any Kindergartener, so while she place...

Re: Any favorite versions for a child's 1st "real" Bible?
Definitely check out the International Childrens Bible translation. It has been a real blessing to our children and we find it a very accurate translation. It is great for kids to read on their own because it is quite literal (for example "he died" instead of "he slept with his fathers".)

Re: Writing and cutting for a 4 yr old?
I would say that is definitely normal for that age! Kumon has some great cutting workbooks for 2-3-4 and 3-4-5 that you could use to supplement if you want to practice the cutting. There are some really cute "projects" in them that the kids enjoy making. You can get them at Barnes and Noble or at Un...

Thank you all so much! I feel much better about it now! She definitely places into Beyond on the chart. I feel good about doing Beyond with her after hearing your comments. Now to make some final decisions for my oldest.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Beyond for 1st grade? Singapore question too...
I am trying to place my kiddos for next year in HOD. This year my dd is in K. She just turned 6. She seems to place into Beyond...she is doing a 1st grade phonics and reading program this year (Rod and Staff) but technically she will be in 1st next year. I see that many people are using Beyond for 2...

Re: Not sure....
I agree with everyone else...my ds was just not getting it at all as far as reading and had really no interest in letters for quite sometime. My dd, was a self learner. She is doing first grade work now and reading fluently and she is only in K! It will eventually click with him I'm sure. My ds is n...

Is CLE LA considered an "advanced" program?
My ds will be in 4th grade next year. Right now he is using CLE 3 light units for LA. I noticed in Preparing, it says to begin with English 3, as English 4 is quite a bit more advanced than English 3. It says to do this unless "your child has previously used an advanced program for English". I am no...

Re: Math Woes-Need Advice
Hello, I just wanted to encourage you and say that my son is very advanced in math now, but he did not know his math facts until well into the second grade when he was 8 yrs old. I have found that I had the best results when I just didn't push the issue too much. In first grade, I let him use manipu...
