Re: Stories of the Pilgrims (older version)
We're in Unit 7, but when I have the chance I'll peek through and see if I can make the matches and mark it in the guide. I'll share when I do. ;) BTW, was just browsing your blog, my 3rd grade boy is in Beyond too for many of the same reasons you wrote. We're adding a few extras to 'beef it up' as ...

Re: Stories of the Pilgrims (older version)
We are using the 1991 edition and I have been able to coordinate by taking a quick look at the key idea for the day and checking it against the next chapter we have. Do you know if there were any differences between the editions besides page numbers?

Re: Adding more writing to LHfHG?
Thanks Julie, those are excellent recommendations and just the nudge and direction I need. She loves writing, I find her stories all around the house, but I am not wanting to push her into creative writing (I love that it's just fun for her right now). Using copywork as a way for her to build her po...

Re: Adding more writing to LHfHG?
Thanks Robbi, I was thinking I could ask her to notebook the discussion questions. For spelling we use a different program, Tracey Tutor (it wraps our phonics/reading/spelling together). Adding writing pages for science and history will be very helpful.

Adding more writing to LHfHG?
Because of a year that was derailed because of loss, my children are still working through the guides we started last year. We feel good about that because we don't want them to miss completing what they started so that they can also be successful in later guides. For my 5th grader this is fine, he'...

I had the opportunity to share HoD!
I was invited to be one of the guest bloggers in So You Call Yourself a Homeschooler 's series on methods and approaches to homeschooling. HoD has really helped in the defining of our homeschool and I hope that what I've shared helps other consider it as the great resource it is. http://www.soyoucal...

Re: Help Me Decide What's Best, Please!
For a child placing between guides I would choose the lower of the two. You can always add a little challenge where needed but you really don't want to have to lower the level of the guides as written because it will create harder challenges as you progress through guides if you stay with HoD. I sta...

Re: Who uses bigger for fifth grade?
My 10yo (was 9 when we started Preparing) did technically place in Preparing, but once we actually started it the CM methods that were new to him, like written narration and dictation, were a little bit more of a challenge than I felt were really necessary at this point. I prefer to take it a little...

Re: Who uses bigger for fifth grade?
We'll be using it for my 5th grader starting in the next month or so. We had started Preparing with him last fall but with our year being what it was we needed to give him a step back (we completed 6 units of Preparing) so that we could have a solid foundation of the CM methods. We will be using the...

Re: Disappointed that HoD won't be at nearby conventions
It's encouraging to see others in my area using HoD. I am one of the only people in my circle using it and many in my oversight group have never heard of it before I started sharing about it. Is love to hear more from "locals" using HoD and what they're finding for field trip opportunities nearby.

Re: LHTH questions...could use a bit of help please!
If you are holding on to the curriculum after you use it for these two is it possible to use the cost of the curriculum as a business expense tax deduction for your day care rather that having the parents pay for what you'll keep possesion of? Maybe I'm missing something from what you've shared and ...

Disappointed that HoD won't be at nearby conventions
I was hoping the HoD would be at one of the local conventions like CHAP or HEAV (or even our little MACHE-MD fair).
Sorry I won't have the opportunity to meet you all this year.

Any HoD blogging mommas going to 2to1Conference?
I just got my ticket for the Titus 2:1 Conference and was wondering if I'd get the chance to meet any other HoD mommas.
