Help me implement painting projects in an effortless way

So we started today (CtC & Bigger) and it went great. I peeked ahead to tomorrow and noticed both kids have painting projects.....yay (says the very un-artistic mom)! I could really use some ideas on how to make the painting projects not become huge ordeals. Younger daughter (in Bigger) handles inde...

Ok, I've got a doozy placement question ;)

We have used and enjoyed HOD in the past. Took a year (or two?) off and contemplating returning, but not sure where exactly we would fit. Two kids - 8 & 10. 10 year old has done all HOD years through Bigger. (I think he did it when he was 8, it was a little over him at the time.) I really, really, r...

Re: proper placement is so important

I have to agree with this. My kids were pretty well placed last year. We didn't finish the guides we were in and this year instead of picking up guides that were midway finished (I wanted to start something fresh for the new year!) we started up another shiny program. I was drawn to it because the t...

I need some encouragement!

I need some encouragement from some of you amazing mamas! We had a tumultuous year and we are not finished with our current guides. In my heart, I want my kids to finish the guides that they are in. In my Type-A mind, I want to be done with the year, wrap everything up with a tidy bow, have a great ...

Re: LHFHG's 1st grade FIne Motor books

Just a side note to Carrie - my kids LOVE the R&S books and I was so excited when I saw the switch. We had the previous 1st grade book and no one really liked it here. When I ordered the R&S books, my son (8) was very upset that I didn't order them for him, as well. My kids love them!

Re: Do I need a schoolroom with HOD?

We do not have a schoolroom. I used to! But, I was so frustrated having a separate space! When my son was in K & 1st - he hated doing his handwriting or math worksheet in a separate room, if I had to make lunch or be with his sister, or leave the room for anything. I hated that we were confined in t...

Re: Can I get any tips on "Vocabulary" in Bigger?

Thank you ladies, for these suggestions. The change we're going to make this week is that I am not going to assign the vocab with his other independent work. (Yes, I am guilty of trying to get that laundry done, too!) I will sit with him and see which of these other things will work with him, as wel...

Can I get any tips on "Vocabulary" in Bigger?

So, my son Loves HOD, loves with a capital L. When I was trying to decide what to do this coming year, he was just devastated anytime I suggested anything other than HOD. :) The ONLY thing he doesn't like is when he has to do vocabulary (he's doing Bigger). It's kind of borderline ridiculous how he ...

Re: LHFHG storytime question

Hi Kathy, I don't think your daughter will have trouble enjoying them, either. We love them here. My daughter who doesn't have the longest attention span even enjoys them. What I would suggest (and what I did, because I had the same concerns as you!) is to read through the Beatrix Potter books from ...

Re: Questions about using Rod & Staff (specifically R&S 3)

This year I've used First Language Lessons 3 with my son instead of Rod & Staff. I regret my decision. It takes TOO MUCH TIME for me. We like the poetry he has memorized from it. I like the memorization of the preposition list. Maybe I'll incorporate a little more memorization in the future, but I ...

Questions about using Rod & Staff (specifically R&S 3)

We used R&S 2 this year and I feel a little "meh" about it. We also used another grammar program that my son did really well with. (A lot of reciting definitions of parts of speech.) This is my last hang up for next year - should we continue with R&S or continue with the other grammar? One thing tha...
