Re: An idea for organising your year :)

I really need to do this! I've already skipped over a couple of things because I didn't make sure I had what we needed. :( DS is the very independent type. He'd love to have it set up for him and in one place. :)

Wonderful! I hope that things get better with this great opportunity! I know you've been in anguish over what to do.

Re: Should I be concerned about the way dd reads?

My 7yro dd was doing much the same thing last year. She'd look at the first letter and guess what the word said and sometimes it didn't even start with the same sound. It was quite frustrating. As I didn't know what to do with her and we seemed to be hitting a big roadblock, I backed off of the read...

Re: Advice on placement

Thanks, Julie! I actually submitted my Bigger order today. Now I'm chomping at the bit for it to get here. I have Little Hearts in hand, so I'm good to go for my dd. We're on fall break this week. I am so excited to get started back next week... with our HOD materials!

Re: Advice on placement

Cyndi, I just realized I forgot to say that you would be doing his 4th grade level on math and grammar while doing Bigger. We actually did level 3 Rod and Staff just because we were new to Rod and Staff. If you choose to use Rod and Staff you would just want to make sure you schedule it as to finis...

Re: Advice on placement

You could use Little Hearts for her with first grade options, and choose the level of math that fits her (use the free printable singapore math placement test available online), along with a phonics program. That would give her time to grow in reading, yet challenge her where she is ready. Bigger s...

Re: Advice on placement

Hello, I just wanted to pop in and say that this past year I did Bigger with 2nd(7yr) and 4th(9yr) boys. We absolutely loved it! From what you have shared about your son I would probably start him in Bigger.... I am just saying this to let you know that 1)Bigger would be plenty for a 4th grader (so...

Re: Advice on placement

Thanks, Kristen. I have looked at the placement chart and I'm just concerned with her late reading that she won't be ready for Bigger next year. You make a good point that I could slow it down by doing it four days. I hadn't considered that. I'm sure she'd enjoy the Beyond books. I've been reading t...

Advice on placement

I started the year with my kids combined in another curriculum. My dd is 7 in second grade and my ds is 9 in 4th. I'd thought to keep them combined but it's just gotten to the point where I cannot deceive myself in thinking this is working well for us. I do love learning together but my kids are too...

Re: 6yro dd struggling with reading

I appreciate y'all's input so much! I am going a different path for a while and seeing if that will help. We'll just keep moving along as much as we can. I am just so thankful that she's our 2nd. I know my dh would have been so concerned and would've been trying to push her had she been first. As it...
