Re: Will it make a difference?? Beyond...
Thanks HappyMama! I will go ahead and start with the Fantasy genre and be sure to use the Storytime boxes for Fantasy with it!

Will it make a difference?? Beyond...
If I change the order of the genres for the Storytime box, will it make a difference in how our year flows? We are about to start Beyond and will have an opportunity to go to the play, 'Charlotte's Web' in February. I would like for us to have read the book before we see it, so I am considering swit...

Re: Is anyone else huffing and puffing?
We were trying to finish up LHFHG so we could start Beyond after the New Year -- my ds is in his first grade year and I am trying to do the 2 guides over 3 years to get to Bigger for 3rd. Before Thanksgiving I had the days lined up to finish on time, but since then SO many things have come up I just...

Re: Mistake about Monticello
Thanks! I bet that is the explanation!
While I was on the tourist site, they had a neat guide to Monticello for young learners. Here is the link:

Mistake about Monticello
Not that this is really that big of a deal, but the History Stories for Children states that the two fronts of Jefferson's house faced north and south. We went onto the official 'Monticello' tourist website (hoping to see an online guided tour, etc.) and found out the the two fronts actually face ea...

Re: Math
Yes, TM is the Teaching Manual, the LHFHG guide. Sorry. There is a box in there for math and it has a hands-on activity nearly every day to coordinate with the workbooks.

Re: Math
There are MANY hands-on activities in the TM that line up with the worksheets! I have a VERY hands-on learner as well and math is his FAVORITE subject after having gone through LHFHG with the activities that Carrie has planned out!

Re: How to keep guide clean - especially CTC
I saw someone who was using a clear cookbook holder to keep theirs clean! It kept the book upright so dc didn't have to touch the pages to keep them out of the way and there was the splash guard too!!! I thought it was a FANTASTIC idea!

Re: Science topics
HI! I'll try to help you out here. I am just finishing up LHFHG with my ds. We used the K option for science and the text is set up by the days of creation. Each chapter gives a basic understanding of what happened that day. For example, Day 1 covers light (and Carrie has a hands on activity or two)...

Re: Beyond for 1st?
Thank you SO much for all of your advice! This is such a supportive board! After reading all of your wonderful posts, I think I will continue along as we are and maybe take Bigger at half-speed when we get there. We have not intentionally been doing school 4 days a week this year, but it has pretty ...

Beyond for 1st?
I have been reading the boards and have seen that a large number of people are using Beyond for 2nd grade, as they feel that Bigger is a challenge for 2nd. My ds is 6 and we are finishing up LHFHG. He has not had any difficulties with this year and has really enjoyed his schooling. There were very f...
