reading comprehension difficulty

Hi! I have a 6 & a half year old son who is slightly cognitively delayed. He tested in the low average range for most things in a battery of educational tests administered by the school district last Oct. His delays aren't severe enough to qualify for special ed services. I have him doing basically ...

QUESTION ABOUT SCIENCE EXPERIMENT DIRECTIONS

Hi! I'm confused about what to do in one of the science experiments in CTC. It's unit 16, Day 4. This is the one about different kinds of birds' beaks and which type works best for catching insects. It says to use a small envelope for one of the bird "beaks" and to open the envelope like a mouth. Ok...

DITHOR Book Project Question

Hi Ladies! We're currently doing level 4/5 for my 9 yo and 6/7/8 for my 11 year old. They're both very strong independent readers. I'd like to do the project where they set goals to help them grow in the character traits learned in that unit. We just finished the biography genre. For my 9 yo dd, the...

Re: At my wit's end with ds9...again.

Heather, You made an excellent point about the definition for rod. I do believe it is speaking specifically about a chastening rod in that particular verse, but the definition of a guiding staff could also apply as well. I am not anti spanking. I just don't think it's the solution to every act of di...

Re: Laying Down The Rails- Habit Training

Shannon,
I've never heard of that book, but my kids could definitely use some habit training! (for that matter, so could I LOL!) Could you tell me a little bit about the program? Thanks!

Re: Educating Myself in Charlotte Mason...How?

Good question, Shannon. I'd like to do the same thing, and I too, would prefer to avoid reading long archaic language filled books to do so. I really wasn't at ALL familiar with CM philosophy before HOD and still know very little. So thanks for posting this. I'll have to check out the books the ladie...

Re: At my wit's end with ds9...again.

With all due respect to those who insist that spanking is the only effective discipline for defiant children, I have most definitely found that NOT to be true with my Asperger's son who has sensory issues. With "normal" kids, I would say yes that's probably the best consequence. However, spanking is...

Re: At my wit's end with ds9...again.

I SO feel your pain! Honestly, we had issues with our oldest son's behavior from infancy on. I hschooled him until 7th grade. We didn't really have issues over school work per se, but he did have many violent, rebellious, out of control behaviors. Finally, we sought professional help. I know a lot o...

Re: Question about Singapore Math....

Hi! I use both the workbook and textbook 3A for my 2 dd (ages 9 and 11). We do the textbook together, with the girls alternating problems after reading the examples aloud. Then they each do the corresponding workbook pages on their own, which we correct after they're both finished. But even if I jus...

Re: OT: Sinking Fast! Need Prayer!

Just wanted to let you know I prayed for you this afternoon. Please keep us posted. I believe you WILL come through this victoriously! Also prayed that you would get the necessary support from hubby, family, relatives, friends, and church.
Blessings!

Tina,
You mentioned having kids make their own lunches as one of your sanity savers. What specifically do you keep on hand so they can do this? My hschooled kids are 11,9,and 4 and a half. I would love to start doing this.
Thanks!

Hi Water2wine!
Can you repost your chore chart? Only half of it is showing up. I have 5 kids and would like to use something similar to what you have, but it would help for me to see the whole thing. Thanks!

pacing and questions about CTC

Hi Ladies! I'm new to HOD and am returning to homeschooling after 5 years of having my kids in public school. My two oldest boys are still in public school. They had absolutely NO DESIRE to return home. My oldest is a senior in high school, and my next son is in 8th grade. But I am teaching my younge...
