Re: Storytime with kids in multiple books
My oldest took over the storytime box halfway through CTC. If I were you I would have the ones in Res to Ref read their own storytime books and read separately to the ones in Bigger and Little Hearts. The storytime books in the upper guides are not really appropriate for younger kids due to historic...

Re: Singapore math question
I recommend getting the HIG's especially for level 5 and 6. It is really nice to have the answer key as well as being able to see the problems worked out. The story problems and bar diagrams can be quite tricky at these levels.

Re: Preparing - Noah's Ark
The True Story of Noah's Ark is scheduled in the storytime box. Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood used to be scheduled in the independent history box but it has gone OOP. You can either try to find it used or just omit it like the newer guides do.

Rod and Staff English is a complete English program which contains grammar and writing. HOD does add in extra writing components throughout the guides.

Re: Algebra in 8th or 9th grade
My son is 11(will be 12 in July) and in just finished 6a/6b for 6th grade. I'm going to have him do a pre-algebra program next year for 7th and then algebra 1 in 8th grade. Singapore 6 covers some pre-algebra topics but there are several that it does not cover at all. I didn't want my son to jump in...

Re: Day 5 Ideas
We do a very small co-op with my sister in-law and my sister. All together we currently have 10 kids ranging from PreK-8th grade. We pick a topic for each month at the beginning of the school year and each mom plans one day per month. We get together at our houses or sometimes a park/outdoor locatio...

Re: Math after Singapore 6A-B
My oldest is finishing up SM 6b right now for 6th grade. I spent hours looking at different choices online for 7th grade. I really did not want to jump into Algebra 1 until 8th grade. Even though SM does cover some Pre-Algebra there are several topics not covered. I finally decided on Horizons Pre-A...

Re: Middle School Math - BEFORE Foerster's Algebra
I'm going through the same dilemma right now, except my oldest is finishing SM 6b right now. I want to hold off on Foerster's until 8th grade, but can't figure out what to use for 7th. SM 6 covers some Pre-Algebra topics but there are several topics it does not cover. I have looked at a bunch of dif...

Re: Any others starting school soon?
I haven't even ordered RTR for my oldest yet. We are in the middle of getting our house ready to sell, so we are super busy. I am not sure yet when we will start. Hopefully we will be done by mid August.

Yes I use them for all levels, but you especially need them for 3 and up.

Re: Singapore Math and finishing guide
At this level of math it is perfectly ok for kids to use manipulatives most of the time. I highly recommend Cuisenaire rods for learning and practicing math facts up to 10. You can find games and activity for C-rods online. I can message you a link to a great site if you want. Drilling facts at this...

Re: ER Question
I use some of the supplemental titles as well as some other books to stretch out the ER's. Generally we rotate between the ER's and other books. I still have the child read them aloud to me and sometimes we discuss them instead of the questions.

Re: Which guide to choose?
HOD placement is based on skill and age and not on history cycles. Res to Ref is intended for advanced 5th graders, 6th graders and for 7th-8th with the extensions. There is no way your kids would be ready for it. ;) Have you looked at the placement chart on the HOD web page? It is best to see where...

Re: Math sequence?
Thanks Julie. I think he is doing fairly well with math. He isn't a math whiz or anything but he is probably doing better than I give him credit for. Why is that we moms are always harder on our oldest child? :) I'm still not sure exactly what route to take. I was thinking he would need something in...

Math sequence?
I'm a bit confused about the math sequence contained in the late middle school/high school guides. My ds is currently in 5th grade using CTC and SM 5b. Next year he will use RTR and SM 6a/6b for 6th grade. So if he continues with HOD math recs he would be using DM 7a/7b for 7th grade with Rev to Rev...
