Using CTC with 4 students?
We just started CTC today. Since I have 4 students all using the guide I need ideas for how they can all do their independent work without taking the guide with them. I don't think just putting the guide on the table and telling them to check it is going to work, since there are questions they need ...

Re: need ideas for reading PH's history to my visual learner
I have a similar issue with my crew. Three of them can follow along and narrate just fine but my dd9 just gets lost. I have found that stopping at random places and asking her a question about what I read forces her to pay attention. She isn't narrating but at least she has some idea of what I have ...

Re: Question About Singapore Math Review Lessons
I found that my children could not complete the review lessons without my help. In the lessons they would only be doing one type of probelm at a time, whereas in the review they not only had to remember how to do all the types of problems, they also had to determine which type of problem each one wa...

Re: Rod and Staff English and Standardized testing
My dd8 is using R&S 2 for 3rd grade this year. We are only 2/3 of the way through the book, yet when she took the CAT last week language mechanics and language usage and structure were her two highest sections! I don't think you will have to worry about R&S not preparing him for testing.

Re: Need suggestions for summer reading
My dd8 is having very similar issues and I also was looking for something to use over the summer to help her. I looked through a friend's ETC and think that I am going to try using that. I like the multi-sensory approach that ETC offers (see a picture of the object, say the word, write the word) and...

CHAP conference
I had a great time meeting Carrie at the conference today. I actually had to wait for quite a while since there were so many other ladies that also wanted to thank Carrie for all her hard work. It was my first time ever at a homeschooling conference but I could just take the time to browse and enjoy...

Re: Cursive, how do know they are ready?
I have two that were ready to move into cursive and two who I weren't sure about but I wanted to keep them all together so I went ahead and started everyone in Cheerful Cursive. My boys (who already had neat handwritting) are doing fine and my girls (who both have sloppy handwriting) have been doing...

Re: Bigger Handwriting ?
Thank you for all the help. Bigger is really full of other writing so we have decided not to do the copywork. They are doing all the other writing (except 1/2 of R&S, which we do orally) so they are getting plenty of practice. We are in our 2nd week and I love to see all the new skills that they are...

Narration funny
We are reading "Ben and Me" and are at the chapter about Ben visiting the print shop and Amos changing the type forms. When my son narrated this part to me he explained that "Amos looked at the computer and changed what Ben had typed"!

Bigger Handwriting ?
We are starting Bigger on Monday and I wasn't sure if I should have my kids do both the Cheerful Cursive and the copywork in the Poetry section. Even though we are starting cursive their printing could still use some work. Should I do both or is there enough other writing that they will still get en...

Re: Do you think HOD could work for this child? Or PS is better?
One of our daughters was 5 when she came to us and was very behind in every area. She had to attend PS for K, since she was still a foster child at that point. The situation was extremely stressful for her. She came home in tears every day. She has a fairly severe speech delay and because of that sh...

Re: DS and RME-should I wait a while?
My ds turned six last August. I tried TRL and he was just not ready for it. We held off until the spring and now he is flying through the lessons. If I would have pushed it earlier he would have just had a lot of frustration and tears. I would wait a few more months until trying a formal phonics pro...

Re: Extending over from last year?
We usually start our school year finishing the last several weeks of the previous guide. I love doing it this way because it helps us ease into school by doing a familiar guide/routine before moving to the next guide. I will start Bigger with my 3rd graders in Oct. so I think that you would be fine ...

New to board but not to HOD
After years of using HOD and reading this board I have finally joined! We have used Little Hands, Little Hearts, and Beyond and this year are looking foward to using Bigger. We love HOD! Since I will have 4 kids in Bigger do I need 4 copies of R&S English or can I get away with them sharing one copy...
