Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR
So I have a 6.5 yr old that finished the ERs and most of the supplementary books last month. I had bought DITHOR and the 2/3 Workbook last year since I was considering it for 1st grade. At the beginning of this year when my son was barely 6, he wasn't ready for the deeper analysis of DITHOR. But 7 m...

Re: Just ordered Beyond!!! :D
That's great that you have a plan in place! I just wanted to clarify that there is only one set of ERs, right? There are separate girl/boy/classic sets for the Beyond story time, but those are read aloud by you. If you need more ER titles, there are many supplementary titles listed in the Beyond gui...

Re: Once again looking for help with placing
Just wanted to chime in that I think you are doing the right thing - continuing on in LHFHG where you left off. You are not alone! I think my son is ready for Beyond right now, but we are continuing on in LHFHG since we didn't finish it last year. Your son sounds a lot like my 6 yo: reads fluently a...

Re: Considering a switch to HOD and a ?
What do you think about using Beyond, but substituting in the Fine Motor/Handwriting from LHFHG in the place of the Beyond copywork for your younger dd? The LHFHG guide schedules it all so that it all works out to 34 units, but you could probably just get the workbooks and do it at dd's pace. Maybe ...

Re: Heart of Dakota at a Convention in CA??? :)
Oh dear, I'm so sorry for getting everyone's hopes up! It is listed on the page of the exhibitors for the California GHC, but maybe they just listed everyone who is exhibiting at any of their conferences? Awww... definitely disappointed by the news, but we will keep on waiting... and we will ...

Re: Heart of Dakota at a Convention in CA??? :)
CHEA is a different conference that is held in Pasadena in mid-July. I have been there a couple of times, and it is indeed a good conference. But, alas, no Heart of Dakota in the exhibition hall. :( As far as I know, "Great Homeschool Convention" is new to California. I'm very interested in checking...

Heart of Dakota at a Convention in CA??? :)
I just saw an ad for the new "Great Homeschool Convention" in Long Beach, CA in May 2012... and Heart of Dakota is on the exhibitor list!
I was wondering if/when HOD would come to California!

Re: Ugh, sorry!!! Placement question
We are finishing up LHFHG, which we started last year 3-4x a week with my then-5-yo ds. I have a dd who was doing some parts of LHTH and tagging along with ds. Here are a few ideas for "han-riding" and "maf." ;) Last year when dd was sitting in with us for LHFHG... I purchased Do It Carefully and Fi...

Re: I may have picked the wrong guide.
We are not quite there yet, but I've been looking at more advanced LA options to use with Beyond. Maybe you could continue in Beyond, but have her do the dictation and LA (using Rod & Staff English 2) from the Bigger guide? When you use the Bigger guide next year for the rest, she could do Rod & Sta...

I'm glad to hear things are going so well for you!
We are going to start Beyond for my older child in a few months and are doing LHTH also.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Beyond for 6yo Grade 1
Another 6yo in Beyond here. My ds turned 6 at the beginning of August... we have about 7 weeks to go in LHFHG once we start up school officially in a couple of weeks. When we finish that, we'll start Beyond in November. I agree with the pp that if that is where your dd places, she will do just fine....

Re: Question about using Handwriting K with LHTH
Thank you for your responses and advice.
I think I will go ahead with Handwriting K in the order it is presented in the book. She will be so excited to have a "real" handwriting book like big brother!
