Re: How do you diffuse disgruntled Behavior?

I was looking on this board for advice on this topic...I am frustrated because when I confront an attitude or behavior during school, my child is one of those that can't/won't let the confrontation pass...so much so that the rest of school time feels like a waste of time for me because he spends the...

Re: Cursive handwriting question

Hi Christy, We are currently doing Preparing, and we waited until this year to do cursive. I don't think my son would have been ready before now. In the previous guides, we did everything in print. We are using a different handwriting program (HWT), and until now I have not had him do any of the HOD...

Re: having a hard time getting everything done in Preparing

Thanks so much for your help ladies! luv2homeschool, I'd read the thread that Carrie started earlier this year, but couldn't remember what it would be filed under. John'smom, I'm going to check out the cleaning schedule today, and we got some groceries yesterday. ;) Tabitha, thanks for your advice a...

having a hard time getting everything done in Preparing

Hi, We have been in a very busy/full season with outside-of-school things since the end of October, and I'm giving myself a little grace with getting started back up after having finished those commitments and getting done with Christmas, but I am and have been struggling to get everything done with...

Re: Confessions of a hovering momma

Dear Lynn, I read your post, it is encouraging, and something I need to be aware of with my kids, too. Thank you! I also wanted to tell you that my husband has a mild case of cp. When he was a kid, his grandma wouldn't let him help her with things because of his cp (like mowing the grass or carrying...

Re: need HELP with the attitude sin

We are having a similar problem with our ds, he is nine, too. Is it the age? I've thought recently that I need to find a good child development book. Arguing, lots of back-talk, bad attitude, defiance...even over simple every day things like, "Its time to get dressed and brush your teeth." It has be...

Re: Preparing Question...How much can I make independent?

Hi Julie, Yes, I agree, I don't think he is ready to read history on his own. We did do Bigger Hearts, but we ended the school year with four-six units to go, so we may have skipped the part of science you were referring to. I really struggled with whether or not to finish it during the start of thi...

Re: Preparing Question...How much can I make independent?

Thanks for your help, Julie! Yes, my 9 year old is my oldest. He isn't typical, though, and I'm finding I need to push him a little to become more independent. I think I was leaning for things along with what you suggested. Sometimes it is difficult for him to focus/be attentive for some of t...

Re: Preparing Question...How much can I make independent?

Yes, thanks Robbi, I'd seen that.

I'm embarased to admit that we're having some mega attitudes here with just about anything Mom says...in order to alleviate some tension, I've started giving him more to do independently, which seems to help, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing too much.

Preparing Question...How much can I make independent?

Hi Ladies, We are in our fifth week or so of Preparing, and really loving it! I wasn't sure if my 9 year old would be ready for it, but he is doing great. I'm so thankful for it. My question is, how much of it can I make independent? Is it ok for him to read history on his own, and then follow up wi...

Practicing narration on the radio ;)

Hi, I just wanted to toot a little horn for my son...he is 8, doing Bigger this year. We just started unit 22. Narration has always been a struggle, he is slowly improving, but some days he just looks at me with a blank stare. Anyhow, we have been listening to a Christian radio station the past few ...

Re: preschooler

Thanks ladies! :) I do feel that he is getting "enough" learning and activities with the time we spend together on books, puzzles, games, etc., and I know he is definitely learning more than I know, but I've not been sure how much of his resistance to the LHTH material is not being ready or just not...

Hi, My son turned 4 in September. I got Little Hands to Heaven last year for him, but I didn't feel he was ready then. Anyhow, I've been trying to work our way into it this year, slowly, as I also have an 8 year old in Bigger, but my 4 year old is not wanting anything at all to do with his "school."...

Re: Bigger Hearts

Thanks for your help. You know, I realized today that he may be more capable of doing more writing and things than I expected. He happily wrote/copied several sentences from the grammar book in a notebook, which I really thought would be a struggle for him. Going "full-speed," yesterday went ...
