Re: This "homeschooled kids" just don't know : )
We had a fire drill recently at our homeschool fellowship. Many of the kiddos did not know how to line up and go out of the building in a orderly fashion. We all got out just not in nice straight lines. My ds struggles with raising his hand, he just blurts out answers!

Re: For those using Bigger w/ KJV
This is awesome! We too are a KJV family. We are not quite ready for Bigger but this is so very helpful. There is a master list of the verses included on the first six volumes on their website. I may use this with my dd, who is about to begin K! Thanks so much for the post!

Re: Keeping oldest ds on grade level when combined with youn
I have had some of these same concerns along the way! I don't currently combine, but we have gotten "of course" over the past year or so, so I often feel like my ds is behind a bit. I am trying to stretch out Beyond and Bigger so that he does not hit Preparing until 4th grade, but at the same time, ...

Re: Using LHFHG even though child places in Beyond?
I would go with LHFHG! Personally, I prefer it for 1st grade. Like you said, I would do 1st grade options and look into doing the Emerging Reader set if he has completed phonics instruction. If his skill level is beyond the begining of the ERs, I would just take a look at those and begin at an appro...

Re: Need to fill in a year
Hi there! I am about to begin my dd's k year also. What I am planning on doing with her is to do the right side of LHFHG, focusing on the 3 r's for her K year and then going through LHFHG again for 1st doing both sides, using the 1st grade options. I think she may gain more from the Learning through...

Re: Spelling Lists in Beyond
My sister, who's son was struggling with spelling, started using Spellingcity.com. I have no experience with it personally, but my newphew showed great improvement. I think it was fun for him also! HTH!

Re: Combining K and 1st
Hi there! My ds went through LHFHG last year for K and I found that I prefer to use it for 1st grade instead of K. So, that being said, I think that it would be a great choice to combine them in LHFHG! Like the pp said, just have them do the L side together and the R side on their own level. I hope ...

Re: Potty Training and changing up our school day
This is a fun thread! LOL! I guess I can say that because we are about to move, so I haven't gotten too serious about training my little guy yet. As I am sitting here typing this, both of my little ones shouted "I need to go pee!" from the bathtub. :D It is always interesting to hear from other moms...

Thank you Whitney. That website looks very useful!
It seems like I read something about using unlined paper?
Anyone else?

What type and size of handwriting paper is appropriate for 1st grade work? We are doing copywork and spelling from Beyond.

Joy Like None Before!!!
This is a bit off topic, but I think its ok to share this here. Sunday morning at church, my DS6 fell under conviction of the Holy Spirit, repented of his sin and was saved!! :D :D   We are still rejoicing! I am so grateful! This absolutely validates my decision to homeschool. We have had ...
