Happy Thanksgiving to all Fellow HOD'ers!
Just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving time this year, and to share a link with you that has some wonderful videos about the pilgrims, etc, that your children might enjoy watching as well. We have SO much to be grateful for, and I am so thankful for the freedom we have to teach our chi...

Re: Advice please? :) Considering UN-combining dc ages 7 & 1
Mother usually knows best when it comes these things! :D :D You know your children best. If your oldest is really advancing quickly and you feel it is too easy for him, then go for it with Preparing. But I personally would not do that right now with my 10 year old. He would have a fit! :) :) He is d...

Re: serious character help
P.S. One more thought for you, my sister. I hear in my spirit, "Put it all to the side for now." I would encourage you to lay aside everything except the very basics of academics right now. I would possibly have them do math, reading (DITHOR) and LA for a while, and I would FOCUS on character/discip...

Re: serious character help
Now, I am sharing some very personal information here as it does pertain to the situation. My husband & I both grew up in homes with multi-marriages, and mine included alcoholism & physical abuse as well. My birth father left when I was 6 months old and I grew up without a real father. The Lord has...

Re: serious character help
P.S. I "second" the cat and dog suggestion! They add so much joy to life!!!!! I love my kitty and my dog, Emma. They are a blessing to me and so calming to hold them when we are upset. They add much joy and comfort to the children's lives as well.

Re: serious character help
Here are some scriptures for reference...there are many differing views/opinions on this, but one view is a literal interpretation of this, which would indicate that using some sort of corrective tool, such as a paddle, switch or wooden spoon, would be a biblical and appropriate way to discipline ch...

Re: serious character help
One question I have been asking lately is "Who is on the throne of your heart? It is either Jesus or it is you." This has been effective since we did a devotional about this issue, and it is helping. Also, "Shepherding A Child's Heart" is a great resource. I feel for you. I have 2 strong-willed out ...

Re: I'm not getting everything done!!
We definitely could not get it all done each day, so I cut back to doing the "basics" of math, language, and reading (DITHOR) every day and history and science 2 days a week. I just combine 2 days of the guide into one and do day 5 on Fridays. I do rotate science every other day and history on the o...

Re: Coming Home!
Wonderful Stephanie! Doesn't it give a sense of peace when our husbands help "ground" us and our decisions? I love it when my husband does that. It helps me so much and makes me joyful to know that he is involved in the decision making as well. Rejoicing that you will be coming back! Blessings!

Thank you all for your loving responses and prayers! I am never disappointed when I post a request like this on this board. The Lord uses each and every one of you on here. Re: enrolling oldest in public school
Mercy, It is so wonderful to hear your heart of love for your son. Just today I myself was bombarded with a feeling of failure at whether or not my son is learning academically. All I can say for sure is that my relationship with him is growing and becoming so much more attached by him being here wi...
