Re: Placement Help with 9th & 10th Graders
Carrie, Thank you for your insightful reply, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your advice. My daughter is young in her grade (turned 13 this past November during her 8th grade year) so my reasoning was based more on her age and wanting to get a handle on high school grades/credits ...

Placement Help with 9th & 10th Graders
I'm wondering what to do for next year when my son will be in 10th grade and my daughter in 9th. They have both done HOD together all the way until this current year when my daughter has taken a year off (from HOD) because I didn't want her to start World Geography in 8th grade. Now I would really l...

High School Math Question
My oldest is finishing up 8th grade and doing VideoText Algebra. He is almost done with Module C now, so I expect him to complete the rest of the curriculum in 9th grade. He has done well with the program and I'm considering using the Geometry Modules but curious as to other options. My question is ...

Post comparing HOD & MFW?
Could someone link to the post that Julie did comparing HOD to MFW? I've searched but can't seem to find it. I have a friend about to begin homeschooling and is researching both programs. She did such a great job of comparing the two, I thought it would be helpful to my friend. Thanks!

Re: Extra Set of Books for Avid Reader (Preparing)
If you go with the Preparing Extension set, keep in mind the content level is for slightly older children, not just the reading level. Same would be true with the CTC package if she is properly placed in Preparing. If these books are for just fun, extra reading, I would recommend the girl interest s...

Re: Problems with Medieval History Writing Lessons
My kiddos struggled with writing as well...until IEW! Their writing improved tremendously over this past year. We loved the program...the structure, the given topics, the clear directions, the checklist, etc. I would suggest maybe trying to get the Structure and Style Overview DVD ($10, I think). It...

Re: RTR Boy Option Books?
Just wanted to say I just finished going through Boyhood and Beyond with my son, who turned 12 in February, and it has been excellent! I really love that book...it's like an older, godly man having meaningful, wisdom-filled conversations with your son and you get to join in. Because of my husbands c...

Re: Middle School Math - BEFORE Foerster's Algebra
I find this thread interesting as I'm in a similar situation. My 6th grader will finish MUS Zeta this year so I will need a pre-algebra curriculum before we tackle Forester's in 8th. I had actually researched and found MM7 and thought it would be a perfect fit since MM actually recommends Forester's...

Question on setting up RtoR
I'm trying to set up my kiddos notebooks for Resurrection to Reformation and had a couple of questions. On the MapTrek CD, I first printed all the student maps (I need two copies of each of those) and plan to put them in page protectors in the SNB. Then they can slide them out, label & color, then s...

Re: consumables for CtC
Jashub's Journal is part of the Basic Package - Option 1: History Interest Set. I had two kiddos in CTC this year and we did it orally too, it worked fine.

Re: Suggestions for Pre-Algebra after MUS
I have heard good things about Teaching Textbooks but don't think I want to go that route for just one year. I guess I'm just looking for a good prep course before we get to Foerster's Algebra I. Or if anyone has used MUS Pre-Algebra and found it sufficient, that would be helpful to know too. Any ot...

Suggestions for Pre-Algebra after MUS
My oldest will complete MUS Zeta this next school year (his 6th grade year). I've seen Carrie's suggestions for Algebra (Foerster's, VideoText, No Nonsense) and am leaning towards Foerster's but am wondering what to do for 7th grade? I'm not sure whether to just use MUS Pre-Algebra and then make the...
