Re: How much to "push" with LHTH?
Thank you all for your advice! We do already have a lot of routine here (I am definitely a schedule personality), and I really resonate with not requiring him to participate in the school activities. Actually, he listens to all our readings from LHFHG and memorizes the verses, so he is getting quite...

How much to "push" with LHTH?
My ds is newly 3 but has been begging to do preschool like his sister. I've been doing LHTH very, very slowly with him and he does really well with the letter sounds and really enjoys most of the activities. My plan is to repeat it when we finish, so I haven't been making him do the "worksheets"- th...

Re: LHFHG supply list
I would like to know this, too, since I only do a shopping trip every 6 weeks over here. I thought there was a list someone had posted not too long ago?

Re: Beyond for 1st grade? Singapore question too...
Hi, I don't have any experience so I can't really give you advice! Just wanted to say that we are planning on using Beyond for first grade, but we are also doing LHFHG for K, which may or may not make a difference in preparing my dd for that. Hopefully more experienced moms can answer your questions!

Re: Need Ideas for Toddler toys or boxes
My experience is that lots of things work well for a time, but they eventually lose some of their appeal. So, unless you want to continue buying more and more things, I'd just buy a few (math manipulatives, puzzles, etc) and then throw a few homemade things together when the inspiration hits. I tend...

Re: Young reader with DITHOR
I know, our suitcases always max the weight limit :). Thankfully, we can take 8 pieces of luggage now, so I think we'll be okay. My dh laughs at how I fill them up with books and he fills his with running shoes and coffee. We all have our "things". Thats a good idea to stretch out the ERs. I think I...

Re: Young reader with DITHOR
Thanks for the suggestions! So does it sound ok to get the ER's for LHFHG and use them at 5 yr.old, then buy the DITHOR 2 book pack to just have her read to me during Beyond at 6 yr., then do the actual DITHOR guide with level 3 books at 7 yrs. old? I know this sounds like LOTS of planning ahead, bu...

Young reader with DITHOR
I just have a question about pacing for reading. I plan to start LHFHG with my dd right before she turns 5 in February. She has been doing a phonics program already for about 6 months and is just flying through it. I never would have tried to teach her to read this young, but she's extremely motivat...

Re: Is anyone starting in January?
We will be starting LHFHG then since my dd will be turning 5. She would have been ready a few months ago (she is extremely motivated and eager!), but I've made myself wait until she is 5 for the sake of being on a good track with future guides. We did start LHTH in the fall with my almost 3 yr. old ...

Angie, I LOVE your idea! How fun and special! I will definitely think about doing something like that when we can. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Do you "get your kids up"?
I like to sleep too, just earlier :) . Like the pp said, kids are in bed by 7/ 7:30 and up around 6:30, which works great for me since I like to go to sleep by 10 and get up at 6. I think we do a lot of things earlier than most people. We eat breakfast at 7, lunch at 11:45 and dinner at 5 or 5:30. J...

Re: Have you seen HOD carryover to...
Just a small thing from LHTH: We live overseas and have virtually NO English anywhere around us as far as signs, food products, etc. go. Some apartment blocks do have a letter for the address, and as we walked down a street yesterday, my ds 2.5 shouted "There's an A-A-Adam!". He jumped up and down a...

Re: 2 year old and future placement
I started LHTH with my 2 1/2 yr. old ds this fall and have thought through the same issue. He desperately wants to do preschool like his big sis and likes learning letters, so this seems a good time to start. My plan at this point is to stretch each letter into two weeks, by doing LHTH full speed ev...

Re: Missionaries/Missions
We are serving in East Asia, and I'll repeat what others have said about being thankful for your interest in cultivating this important perspective in your dc. Just a couple ideas: find out all you can about the m's your home church supports and write to them, sign up for their letters, have them ov...

Re: Southeasten Homeschool Convention
Oh, I'm jealous! I am from NC but am living in East Asia, and we never make it home during conference "season". I would LOVE to meet Carrie and just see the HOD display (although I'm already sold, so I don't know that it would make a huge difference :D ). Probably not much chance of there being a co...
