For the State History scheduled in M2M, do I need to order the lesson plans or just the student notebook?

Re: Book Lists Anyone :)
I would love to see this also. I picked out my books for my rising 6th grader and we went with The Egypt Game and The Hidden Staircase (Nancy Drew) for her mystery choices. I chose 11 Birthdays and Whales on Stilts for humor, but I haven't read either of those, so I can't really vouch for them. I us...

Re: place between preparing/ bigger
I think the ideal would be Bigger (slowly at first if needed for your younger) and Preparing (possibly even with the extensions) for your older. If they can read well on their own, it doesn't add that much time to have more than one guide. You would probably still be reading to your younger, but you...

Re: Preparing and Creation to Christ
I am considering doing Preparing or Creation next year For all of them? If your 8yo did well with all the skills in Bigger (including writing), I would move on to Preparing. Otherwise, I would finish Bigger and work on any skills he still needs. Your almost-10yo would probably be fine in Preparing,...

Re: Placement - Suggestions/Help??
Assuming you have them all placed correctly (most 9yo's would struggle in CTC, especially if they are new to HOD), there isn't a lot you could do differently unless, like you suggested, you didn't start the boys yet (but I get your point--I'm all or nothing too!) I know this isn't a lot of help with...

Re: Not quite ready for CTC
I am worried about this for my almost 11yo as well. We jumped into HOD when she was 9 (4th grade) and did Preparing. She was not quite ready for this guide (I was trying to combine with on older sib) and she struggled all the way through. I had to constantly tweak it so she wasn't in tears. I knew s...

Re: Sharing TM when combining olders?
I had two kids in RTR this year. They did it almost totally independent except math, grammar and dictation. They shared one TM. The TM sat on the kitchen table, as did the books for RTR. They would come in, look at the TM to see what pages to read, grab a book and go read. Sometimes they read in the...

Re: Please help me place my 15 year old!!!!
My 15 YO son (going into 9th grade) will be doing Rev2Rev this fall. He has done Preparing and RTR. He will do the extension set. We also added Bible, music, and Spanish. I think it will be a great program for my 15 year old. You should probably check the placement chart, but Rev2Rev and M2M are bot...

Re: WAHM of three, considering HOD..how to do it?
I do not work at home, but I work as an RN about 24 hours a week. I work every other weekend and 2 evenings a week 3-11 shift. I also have a son with autism, so we have lots of appointments which eat into our time. This year I had 2 in Bigger (5th &6th grade), one in RTR (8th grade) and a high schoo...

Re: Transcripts
deltagal, I have not used HOD for high school yet (will have a freshman in Rev2Rev next year), but I do have a high school junior, so I have been doing his transcript and I have been thinking about my HOD transcript. I did go to a seminar at my state's homeschool convention on "Homeschooling High Sc...

Re: Question for next year
If your son places in Bigger, don't worry at all about the grammar and handwriting parts. You can use whichever R&S level you need (or even another program if you like). We just finished Bigger using R&S 4 because that was where we were (did R&S 3 last year.) I actually never even looked at the LA p...

Re: How important are the extensions in bigger?
Unless she is "behind" in abilities, I think Bigger without extensions (and maybe some other additions) will be quite light for a 5th grader. I did Bigger this year with my 5th grade DD because we started in Preparing in 4th and it was a little on the hard side for her. I did not want to move direct...

Re: Buy Books or Use Library??
I use the library when I can (buying curriculum for 4 of them gets to be a lot), but I will say it is not always convenient. I make up a list at the beginning of the year of books I will need in order of week I will need them. I occassionally have a small overdue fee, but they email me when items ar...

Re: Needing Help with Placement?
It is so hard when you have a child with such varying skills--reading at 8th or 9th grade level! Wow! I think I would consider Preparing (possibly even with the extension set for higher reading) and then just tweak the writing part. You could start out slowly only having him do some of the writing i...

Re: New to Homeschool looking for input
Katrina, Welcome! Homeschooling is an adventure with lots of ups and downs, but it is so worth it! One thing to remember when pulling kids from PS (I did this as well) is that it can take some time to get used to homeschooling (for mom and for kids). Don't be surprised if things don't run as smoothl...
