Thornton Burgess Books
We have sort of started Little Hearts. I mean sort of because we're doing a bit of a conglomeration of things. Anyway, to get to my point, we're absolutely loving the Thornton Burgess books, so much so, that we are all quite carried away with them. My nearly seven year old son begs for more and reve...

Re: Getting ready for Beyond!!
Thanks Annette.....I haven't found anything at the thrift stores yet =( I was questioning the sturdiness of the cart. Unfortunately they didn't have one set up in the store...that's why I asked! I figured maybe I could get someone else's opinion that had tried it out! I'll keep looking :D Hav...

Re: Getting ready for Beyond!!
I haven't used one of these for HoD (we're just about to start) but I'm a bit of an organization junkie :) I've used my fair share of wheelie trolleys and plastic drawers in my time and I have 4 boys who make very solid demands on storage, both of stuff and the way everything is treated, including t...

Re: Any tips on how to follow a reading schedule?
Each Student Book level of DITHOR can be completed several times, using harder books the second time around. For your 6 yo for sure, I'd think doing all of or just the second half of the ERS would be great. For your 7 yo, you could either do the second half of the ERS and start DITHOR in a low key ...

Re: THANK YOU!!! Overseas Shipping
Angus beef steaks is pretty Australian :D We don't eat kangaroo steaks down here much either :D I purchased some of my extra stuff yesterday - paper and glue for our first craft project. The boys are going to be so excited! Actually, at the same time, I bought some crochet hooks and a book on how to...

Re: Any tips on how to follow a reading schedule?
Thank you for all these replies, they have helped clarify and organise my approach enormously. Starting about half way through would be pretty well perfect and I can use the first few weeks to ease into the history material in Little Hearts, finish phonics review and work on handwriting skills, whic...

Any tips on how to follow a reading schedule?
We are just about to begin LHFHG combined with the Basics from BLHFHG. Both my boys, aged nearly 7 and nearly 6 are very competent independent readers. However, since they haven't quite got the maturity to do DITHOR, I am going to start them on the emerging readers program. The 'problem' (if you can...

Re: I'm very excited and nervous! any thoughts?
Stacey, You sound just like me, except I have four boys! Just take it one day at a time and pray, pray, pray! In fact, what I love about HoD is the way each day is organised in boxes. You can do one box at a time! All you have to do is start otherwise you will hyper-organise yourself crazy and your ...

Annette, HOORAY! I'm so glad that you already have your books in hand! The boys will love your greeting. :D We thoroughly enjoy eating at the Outback here. :D Happy reading! :D Blessings, Carrie Do they serve kangaroo steaks at the Outback? We will be starting next week, once I've organised ...

Re: Skip Beyond? WWYD?
Here is a post that is helpful in explaining the differences in writing needs between Beyond and Bigger: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3005 http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1516&p=11829 What great threads! Re: Skip Beyond? WWYD?
Annette - Thanks for sharing more about your ds and also more about your desire to combine at some point! :D I had that exact same thought in regard to your dc's placement. With them being only a year or so apart and close enough in abilities to only be one guide different from each other, I really...

Re: Skip Beyond? WWYD?
I think starting Bigger without doing Beyond with a child that is opposed to writing more than a word or tracing over an example would make it one tough year for the mom, which I so don't want for you! :D The issue with writing with my little guy is that during formal handwriting-copywork lessons h...

Re: Skip Beyond? WWYD?
Have you thought about working on just his handwriting for a few months to beef it up and then just start with Bigger half speed? You said he's ready for 2A, has he taken the placement test? Also, if he's not used to the way Singapore Math is done, it might be beneficial to start with 1B even if he...

Skip Beyond? WWYD?
Hi, We were very excited to get our package the other day and I have spent portions of the week-end reading the guides. I am so impressed with what a thoughtful program this is, both because it is so Christ-centred and because it is so age-appropriate. But, I am wondering about Bigger for my soon to...
