Love how God uses HOD!! Example!

My oldest DS just started Res to Ref, and he was reading from Peril and Peace yesterday.... He brought me the book and narrated a portion and then said,"Mom, the next part you JUST have to read yourself... i can't do it, it is just too amazing." So he had me read the portion where Polycarp is martyr...

Re: Tips to be more productive with homeschooling

These ladies have given you some great tips. I am not a morning person either. We try, and sometimes do get started on school before 10, but if our morning is dissolving into the chaos of mom needing to be in 4 places at once to clean up spills and handle diaper emergencies... I take a deep breath, ...

Re: Help with reducing fractions Singapore 4A

lol, 8/12 is 2/3, not 3/4. Maybe i am the issue. I swear I did well in trigonometry and calculus! 4 children have depleted all of my brain cells.

Re: Help with reducing fractions Singapore 4A

I think i may not have explained the problem I am having well. DS understands fractions, but I can't figure out how to explain to him WHICH fractions need reducing. He gets the obvious ones, 4/8 is the same as 1/2, or 2/6 is the same as 1/3, but how do I explain that he should just KNOW that 8/12 is...

Help with reducing fractions Singapore 4A

We are having a bit of difficulty with reducing fractions to their simplest form in Singapore 4A.... The concept isn't well explained in the textbook or workbook, and is introduced BEFORE lowest common denominators. We are working through, and I can explain how 4/8 is the same as 1/2, but it is hard...

Re: Placement for 12yo finishing Preparing..?

Thank you so very much, Julie... It IS so hard not to plan ahead! I agree. When I looked at the jump in independence spiritually in the sample weeks, I just can't imagine him skipping a year of parent led bible study. Bible time and the associations with Grandpa's box and his other readings are the ...

Re: Little Hearts or Beyond?

We have done Beyond before and currently have a child, 7, in Little Hearts. I would agree with these wonderful ladies that Little Hearts just may be a perfect fit for your family. We use some of the K options, and also the 1st grade options.... I can't imagine a child not enjoying the read alouds in...

Re: Placement for 12yo finishing Preparing..?

Not sure I that I answered your last question, Julie, about how Preparing with extensions fits him right now. It is a full load. Especially when you consider normal add ons, like day to day chores, church activities, and taekwondo lessons. He struggles to fit it all in some days, and we often find o...

Re: Placement for 12yo finishing Preparing..?

Hmmm.... He is currently reading Bronze Bow and Beorn the Proud in the Preparing extensions, with no complaints. He is not an avid reader, but will read what is assigned and usually enjoys the material. He loves our storytime books and our read aloud time. He is in book D of Italic cursive and is wr...

Placement for 12yo finishing Preparing..?

Hi, ladies!! We LOVE how God uses HOD as a tool in our home! We have 4 kiddos, 3 of them school age. DD7 is finishing Little Hearts and will move into Beyond, DS9 is finishing Bigger and will bump up into Preparing, and my questions are about DS12 who is in unit 22 of Preparing with extensions..... ...

Re: Bigger or Preparing

I have a 9 yo ds in bigger and a 12 yo ds in preparing with extensions. It sounds like bigger might be a good fit for you!!! We are about half through these guides and I can really see how the skills are built over time. They are both WONDERFUL!!!!

Re: Science extensions for 6th grader in Preparing

I also have a 6th grader doing extensions in Preparing! Through no great planning or insight of my own, but just of his own accord, ds has been checking science books out at the library.... experiment type books, just for fun. He has been making gooey stuff in the kitchen, and doing experiments with...

Re: I need help deciding: Weaver or HOD

I used weaver for a year once. There were a few things I liked about it, but found i was constantly ordering books through other libraries and researching a lot of substitutions as many books were out of print, or simply not available through our county's rather large library system. It was difficul...

Re: Long division question

Thank you!! We are on page 64 of the 3A textbook, and 79 of the 3A workbook. He does well on multiplication, but does not have all his facts memorized. That is not holding him back, however, it is really just not understanding the 'order' or 'rhythm' of long division. Where to place his numbers, whe...

Long division question

Hi, Ladies! DS11 is working through Singapore 3A and is having difficulty with the long division introduction. I am working through the examples in the textbook with him, but it is a genuine wall. I am showing him one problem at a time, step by step. He doesn't understand what questions to ask me, a...
