Hello Again and Advice
Hi, 2 years ago we used HOD. I did LHTH with my 2yo, LHFHG with my 6yo and Preparing with my 10yo. I am looking at using LHFHG, Bigger and Rev to Rev this year. My Questions are about Drawn into the Heart of REading. I own this from before but never quite figured it out. How do you schedule it? If t...

Re: About Classical
I combine the 2. They both recommend great literature and living books. They both recommend foreign language. For my oldest we use Preparing as our main work. I use Saxon math. He does Latin and French. I do outlining along with narration. Narration and dictation are both recommended in classical ed...

Re: Sneaky Snake - LHTH
My 2yo is very similar. She knows all the letters and the sounds. She can count to 10 in English and Spanish. She can count to 3 in French, German and Mandarin. She knows all the colors, shapes and spells her name. I have been having the same debate about what to do next year. I know that you could ...

Re: Preparing, how do you do it all??
I turn off my phone before I go to bed, otherwise I always get distracted by a phone call. Today was cold and rainy so I let Blake sleep in, then a friend called (I didn't have my phone off  ) and wanted to come over. Ashton usually sleeps late, but he was up at 8am and wanted to do his work b...

Blake in Preparing likes the History drawing and Projects the best.
Ash doing LHFHG likes the Thornton Burgess books the best.

Re: How do you schedule everything?
I too have a very busy AND loud 2yo. :D It helps a lot to do some school with her first, we have LHTH. Another thing that works well is doing story time and read aloud during meals. I will eat while I cook so when I get it to the table they can eat and listen. If you have a fenced in backyard, you c...

Re: Not Really Getting Into Thorton Burgess Books
Hi, We are enjoying Heart of Dakota, but my daughter is doing LHFHG for first grade and she is not really enjoying the Thorton Burgess books. She just kind of tunes me out when I read them. Does anyone have any suggestions of what we could do? Here is a link to some coloring pictures: http://www.th...

Re: Educating Myself in Charlotte Mason...How?
I have found that Simply Charlotte Mason is similar to Ambleside in regards of using the EXACT curriculum that CM would have used. I find that is not practical to teach English History to a 1st grader. HOD does a great job of taking her general ideas of schooling and making them more modern. Another...

Re: Laying Down The Rails- Habit Training
I have the book and the audio cd, I think they are great tools. There are some great ideas and thoughts on instilling good habits. Another parenting book I really like is Creative Corrections by Lisa Whelchel.

Re: Using Queen Language Lessons?
If you wanted to use R&S I think I have heard the goal is to try to finish Level 6 by High School. So, you could try starting him in level 5, according to R&S levels 3-5 are reviews of one another. I think you can easily use Queen if it is just a better fit. There is an older thread on using Prepari...

Re: Using Queen Language Lessons?
Hi, I just read all your posts and I wanted to comment about what you said about your son learning to obey and incorporating the Bible. I just switched to HOD this year and I too have tried many different curriculums. My oldest son, 10, cannot spell or do creative writing. I just failed him on that....

Re: R&S English 3 difficulty
I got a Diagramming workbook from Christian Light and they have a book that explains how to diagram. It was very helpful as this is the first time either of us have looked at diagramming.

Re: Preparing 1st day- Lots of Tears
Thanks Ladies! I am also a 1st born and I do want things done exactly my way, I try to recognize when I do this and give some leeway. He disobeys not out of forgetting or from wanting negative attention, but when he thinks that what I told him to do is not important. For example today in Science he ...
