Re: 10 yr old boy not ready for CtC
I am using CTC this year too, with three 10 year old boys and one 13 yo. I am reading the history book out loud, and I agree it is dry. My 13 yo could read it alone and get all the info out of it, but not the 10 yos. It's a pretty wordy book, and they usually glaze over, however skill-wise they are ...

CtC Week 3 project help
I am a very visual learner, and I'm needing help with how to teach the history projects for CTC week 3. The stars project. I've looked on the forum, but can't seem to find any photos posted. Can anyone please help me? I may need help with all of them! LOL!

Re: Simply Charlotte Mason vs HOD
I completely agree about the books used in AO! My heart was always tugged too by the D'Aulaire and Daughtery books and I own all the Burgess books as well as Handbook of Nature Study. So my opinion is that you add them in!! Keep them out for your children to look at. The beauty with homeschooling, i...

Re: Simply Charlotte Mason vs HOD
I actually ran into the same dilemma that you are in, last year in our homeschooling journey. Last year we used a pure Charlotte Mason approach, but I kept thinking about HOD and how I much preferred Carrie's book choices. Some of the books were interesting, like Tanglewood Tales, yet the biographie...

Re: Math Lessons for a Living Education
I can chime in here, as we have used Singapore from 2nd grade-5th. Last year I actually switched my sons to Math Living. We all liked the shorter lessons. There were less problems to do, and it seemed less stressful for my kids. In Singapore, I didn't have my sons do every problem. I think Carrie sa...

Help with reading level for DITHOR
I am putting together my sons' book lists for the fall. My oldest will do DITHOR level 4/5 with the books recommended. My youngest is finishing up level 2 and will begin level 3. My question is, how do I figure out the reading level for books that I already own? I've read some of the ones suggested ...

placement for upcoming 7th grader
I have my 12yo combined with my 9yo in Preparing. It's going really well! However, looking at the placement guide, my 12yo for next year falls in between CTC and RTR. I'm not sure which guide to go with. I love having my boys together, but if my oldest needs to move ahead, then I need to do it. Is i...

Re: Returning to HOD & placement
My new question now is, in order for my 12 year old/6th grader to be on track when he is a senior, and to have all of the credits that he needs, what guide SHOULD he be in for 7t grade? Or what guide can he finish out with and still be ok for college?
Thank you so much!!

Re: Boys to Men and FRUSTRATION
My son is 12.5 and been a needing a lot more sleep! He has never liked school, he just wants it to be over. LOL! He does love nature study and reading, but hates to write. I remember taking a class on child development, and they said that teenagers are going through baby/toddler faze again! That the...

Re: Returning to HOD & placement
That's a good idea to ponder with the science! We always seem to mature a lot over the summer, he will be 13 this August. So Preparing now seems like the best option and then rethink it once he finishes. What guide does Exploration Education start?

Re: Returning to HOD & placement
He is behind in grammar and writing. It was such a struggle in the past to even get him to write a couple of words, so we went very slowly. Now I'm concerned that he is behind. He is capable of CTC and the next guide, the only thing holding him back is writing, grammar and spelling, I think. I'm als...

Re: Returning to HOD & placement
After talking with my husband, I feel like my 12 yo needs more of a challenge than Preparing. I'm not sure if I should put him in CTC or skip it. I am really feeling this urge to propel him forward rather than cater to him and keep him behind with his brother. My youngest is perfectly placed in Prep...

Re: Returning to HOD & placement
Yes, I still have all of the Preparing books, I just need to re-buy the guide. My plan is to start preparing now and use it until we finish in may. We were at about Week 22 when we stopped last year. So your plan sounds good! I can then put my 9yo in CTC and decide on the oldest.

Returning to HOD & placement
Last year I used Preparing for my then 8 yo & 11 yo DS. I loved it, but we actually didn't finish, and I went with a more pure CM approach this year. I have really enjoyed the CM schedule, but I really miss HOD and all of the skill building that my sons received over the last three years with HOD. I...

Re: Switching to HOD fully? Dropping Classical Conversations
Hi! I am familiar with CC and IEW. CC is awesome from what I hear and so is IEW. I am in the middle of Preparing right now, and I can help answer your question. More seasoned moms will probably have more answers than me, but here goes....each day my sons will be either writing a Bible verse, excerpt...
