Re: How do you know if they are dyslexic?

Reading your post makes me wonder if my DS is dyslexic also. We suspect he has ADHD, and I'm wondering if the two go hand in hand.

I agree. I think the timeline is just there to give them an understanding of what a timeline is.

Re: Anyone with an AD(H)D child?

Oh-I forgot to mention something we just discovered works with our dd with ADHD. I'm not sure if this applies to you, I didn't go back and read it again. But just in case it helps I thought I'd share. She reads well but gets distracted really easily and one sentence can sometimes take for.ev.er. An...

Re: Ideas for Science?

We love the Kid Concoctions books. They are full of fun and easy ways to add more science. You could get a telescope and an astronomy book. You could get a magnet kit or an insect or frog habitat, or even Sea Monkeys. You could have him make a life-sized model of the body's internal organs, nervous ...

Re: Explode the Code

 Guess I didn't read into the questions enough. I don't have enough experience to know where you would pick up after TRL. You can look up the scope and sequence of each book on various web pages and compare that to the end of TRL. Sorry I can't help more than that.

Re: Explode the Code

ETC can be fun. We have used the Primers and the first two books. The don't really go along with the Charlotte Mason method, and they don't go in the same order as TRL, so that's something to consider. We too have shelved them, but I don't hate them. We may consider them again down the line if I thi...

Re: Anyone with an AD(H)D child?

Thanks guys! Julie, I LOVE the sticker chart idea. I just made him a chart with 30 spots and when he fills it out I will give him 30 minutes of screen time. His favorite thing is video games, and if I'm not careful he could play for too long. This way he will be earning it and the time will be more ...

Thanks, but I'm really looking for chalk because we have GIANT schoolroom-sized chalkboard.

O/T chalk alternatives

DS likes to do work on the chalkboard, but he hates the feel of the chalk in his hands. I have seen various products out there, chalkboard crayons and markers, but I'm not sure how well they work or if they erase easily. I've also considered getting a chalk holder like the one I remember a teacher h...

Re: LHFHG for a bright 4 year old?

I'm sort of in the same boat. My DD (4.5) is very bright. We started with LHTH and she L-O-V-E-S it. But I tried moving her up to LHFHG with her brother, and she simply wasn't interested in staying put for the readings. It took the fun out of school for her, which I certainly don't want to do. If it...

I'm so sorry for your loss, and that I missed the initial prayer request. Your sweet baby never had to know any sadness, only love, and that in itself is a miracle. Praying for heart and for your family right now.

Re: Doing 3 programs

That's funny. My son looked at me like I had two heads when we read Ol' Mistah Buzzard's lines. I'm quite sure he had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I'm also glad you mention the type of curriculum you switched your son over from. DH doesn't understand getting away from the traditional...

Re: Doubling up with a 4 and 6 yo?

I'm curious how your daughter does with listening to readings. Can she sit and listen to chapter books without pictures and narrate back to you? I totally thought my son (6.5) was ready for Beyond this year and bought the whole curriculum. After the first two days I realized it was going to be too m...
