Re: Bible Study

I have 2 in Preparing & 1 in LHFHG. The LHFHGer sits in for Bible with the olders, recites the verses and often answers the questions(we also go over our Awana verses at that time). Then I do the LHFHG Bible with him by himself. I know from experience that when he gets to it in 3 years, it will be n...

Re: Preparing Timeline

Thanks so much! As we plan to put the house on the market in the new year and since we will have two, I think the accordian will work for us:)

Preparing Timeline

I have two kids starting Preparing this week and am trying to figure out what to do about the timeline as I don't think I have enough wall space for two to be going on at once. I'm not really visualizing the accordian type that is described in the manual. I know that there are probably other threads...

Re: Spelling Lists in Beyond

Something you may want to try(adapted from the curriculum Spelling Power) is to go through the list with her on Day 1. If she gets them right, then you know she already knows them. Then take the ones she doesn't know and focus on those for the week(if she knows all of them, I might even just move on...

Re: Start where we left off or begin new program?

We have 6 weeks of Bigger left before we start Preparing and I opted to finish up for a couple reasons: 1) I'd already paid for all of Bigger so I may as well finish it. 2) I hadn't been doing ALL aspects of the program(lots orally; skipping narrarations on occasion; etc). I thought that doing it al...

Re: How to i break it to him that he's not going to Kindergarten

We went through the same thing when my oldest went from preschool to homeschool. An online friend recommended the book Kandoo Kangaroo Hops into Homeschool http://www.amazon.com/Kandoo-Kangaroo-Hops-into-Homeschool/dp/0890512906. It helped explain what it was going to be like and get her a little ex...

Writing in Bigger/Preparing

We will be finishing up Bigger at the beginning of the school year(last 8 weeks) and then start Preparing immediately after with my ds10 and dd8. We are enrolled in a charter school and this year, the state is requiring all 4th graders to take a writing test. It looks like it's basically that they w...

Preparing for Preparing

Last year you all were so helpful in giving me links to see how you all prepared for Bigger(setting up binders, composition books, index cards, etc). Can anyone point me to a link that would have the same for Preparing?

Thanks so much!

Combining Woe...

This year I have done Bigger with my Boy(turned 10 in Feb) and my Girl(turning 8 in June). It was a perfect fit for both of them academically. After 6 years of hsing, I have finally found what I was looking for in a curriculum and love HOD! Here's what's becoming apparent in combining though - my yo...

Re: TRL - CD-ROM

We are on lesson 15. I've used it as an incentive for my ds5. When he completes a complete lesson, he gets to use it. He's been known to do 8-10 pages at a sitting so he can do "his computer game" the next day as his lesson. He thinks it's fun and the older siblings have been known to peek in the ro...

Re: Horrible handwriting and dictation

My son has vision perception issues and used to often do the same thing you have described. I would check to see if there is any patterns as to WHICH letters she is capitalizing mid-sentance. I found that my son would often do it for B,D,P & Q b/c it was hard for him to remember which way the b and ...

Re: A few Bigger questions..........

I'll try to help... 1)Science/Lab sheets - I believe the children are supposed to write them on their own, but I just made some up for them as my kids have writing troubles. 2) I kept the Dithor genres the same as what we are doing in Storytime. Found that it complemented really well to have them re...

Re: How do you juggle 2 students with DITHOR?

I have 2 doing Bigger & Dithor this year. It's seriously their favorite part of the day. I love it too b/c it's so nice to have some 1/1 time with them and enjoy books together. There are some days where they do things altogether, usually when introducing a new book or genre or during the end of gen...
