Re: Screamer
If you don't want to do read aloud while he's napping, then I like the crib in another room suggestion. Give him some toys, music if you want to to, close the door with a bright light on so he knows it's not nap time, then read quickly.

Re: Reason #4 To Use HOD - The Teacher Guide
I just got back from the CHEA convention (unfortunately not the one HOD will be at) and had the opportunity to look through Sonlight's and MFW's lesson plan books. I didn't realize how much I love the day by day plans as opposed to a weekly grid until I thumbed through these. With HOD's guide book e...

Re: Should I switch from Sonlight?
Yes, you should switch from Sonlight. Actually it really is a choice for your family, but it doesn't sound like Sonlight is right for your family right now. I have 2 older, graduated children and I used Sonlight with them. I read until I was hoarse. Seriously. There was so much reading that w...

Re: Little Hearts or Beyond?
I'm doing LHFHG with my 6 and 7 year old boys and they really like it. One thing that might benefit you and your daughter with this program is that the readings are short. For a child who is burned out from listening this might be a benefit. I know that as the programs go on the amount of "listening...

Re: Sneak Peeks: New World Geography Guide
Our plan is to include a geography or history credit each year, a science with lab credit, a math credit, an English credit (with literature/composition/grammar/vocab. covered), a Bible half credit up to a credit each year, time allotted in the guide for a half credit (or a semester) of foreign lan...

Re: Sneak Peeks: New World Geography Guide
I'm a long way off from this, but it's sill exciting. I was just wondering if math and a foreign language will be included also? It would be nice to never have to scope out any other curriuclum resources.

Re: What do you do to get over that mid year slump
I picked up the HOD catalog and re-read it practically cover to cover. You saw my waivering and waffling on the yahoo group. That's not exactly what you're talking about, but just reading though the program and seeing how well laid out it is again made me excited all over again. Getting excited help...

Re: Query - Teaching the Non-verbal
I saw your other post too, and I couldn't help but respond. The book Communicating Partners by James MacDonald is a wonderful resource that helped us tremendously with our 6 year old. Your son may never become verbal, but in my opinion, this book helped us more than any other in bringing language ou...

First day of LHFHG with 7 and 6 yr. old boys
I've had LHFHG for over a year and it's been hard to wait, but I knew my 6 yr. old needed to wait. I thought it might be too young for my 7 yr. old, but I think it's a great fit for both of them. We did all the activites and they both LOVED them. They really need the activities and having them sched...

Re: HOD and visual learner
I have two boys who are both language delayed and abstract concepts were very hard for them. The devotions totally went over their heads. Just to encourage you though, they are both starting to grasp those harder concepts and ask questions about what they don't understand. I think going half speed w...

Re: Earlybird Kindergarten Questions
This is just my opinion, but if you do the activities in the guide you really don't need the workbooks. They are just extra for reinforcement. If you have to have a workbook to go with it, and you can't purchase the ones that are sold here, then get something like Singapore Essential Math for Kinder...

Re: What to do b/t LHTH and LHFHG
My boys are 14 months apart and I wanted to keep them together too. I tried LHTH, but it didn't really work for us, so I did an eclectic year for both of the boys, with the older one doing the K portion of LHFHG (right side of guide minus storytime) and the younger one doing preshool readiness thing...

I think I saw someone mention that the HOD facebook page has this info. I'm not on facebook, so I can't check.
