We LOVE HOD!
We received next year's HOD box in the mail this week and I honestly don't know who was more excited, me or the kids. My daughter ( who struggles with reading) couldn't wait to start reading The Littles. I couldn't tell her, " Sorry, you have to wait till next year to read that." So I guess I will j...

Here is the link: http://keyschristianacademy.blogspot.com/ Jack LOVED The Bears on Hemlock Mountain, he was dissapointed when he finished the book. That i...

Re: Homeschooling an ADHD/defiant child? struggling to decide
Jack also NEEDS to know what is going to happen next through out the day. I write the title of each HOD box on an index card each morning. He highlights through each one when we are done with it. Another thing that has been a HUGE help is allowing him to draw while I am reading. He NEEDS this. He ha...

Re: Homeschooling an ADHD/defiant child? struggling to decide
My 8 ds has been diagnosed ADHD and ODD. I knew it was coming from the time he was three. ( I also realize that my ds age 2 will fall under that label ) My daughter is ADD and severe dyslexia. And they are all three at different places on the spectrum. My boys are super hyper, need little sleep, tal...

Re: Question about Children's Grade Level
My ten year old daughter has dyslexia and dyscalculia, so she is behind in language arts, reading, and math. She is currently working on 2nd grade math and 3rd grade english, it is wear she needs to be. I can't "wish, pray, or hope" her into a higher grade. Believe me, we have tried! We often recite...

Re: Youngers bypassing older siblings?
My eight year old son has passed my ten year old daughter in math and they are on the exact same reading level at the moment. My daughter has severe dyslexia. With HOD, I just combine both of them in one book. My daughter is currently doing second grade math and english, but this is what level she i...

Re: 3rd Grade Vocabulary
I wasn't really sure about the vocab part myself. I am using Bigger with a 2nd and 3rd grader. My daughter with dyslexia was really struggling with some of the vocab in Bigger. But I tweaked just a little and I am so pleased with how she is doing now! I always add the new words in the poems as part ...

Re: Park Day
I am NOT the sales person type at all. I have tried and failed miserablly at the work at home jobs in the past. ( partylite, southern living, discoverytoys, ect..) But I love HOD so much that I can talk about it for ever! If HOD was a work at home business, I would have a mommy job! LOL But I don't ...

Re: What unit do you hope to finish before Christmas?
We will be taking three weeks off in December for my son's birthday, my mom's birthday, and Jesus' birthday! We homeschool four days a week, year round, so we are not as far ahead as most of you. We will just finish Unit 11 before we take our December break.

Re: Have you seen HOD carryover to...
I absolutely love reading out loud to my children. When I bought Bigger I bought the classic book set, the boys interest set, and the girl's interest set. We started with a book from the classic set for our biography ( Ben and Me), we are reading a book from the boy's set for our Adventure story now...

Re: 2 year old and future placement
Thanks Julie! I had lost my old post on the board and didn't realize you had already responded to my question on there. I really appreciate everyone's advice on this. I thought it might be too much of a jump to move into LHFHG next year at 3. Thank you all for letting me know that it isn't a wise ch...

Re: Have you seen HOD carryover to...
Just a small thing from LHTH: We live overseas and have virtually NO English anywhere around us as far as signs, food products, etc. go. Some apartment blocks do have a letter for the address, and as we walked down a street yesterday, my ds 2.5 shouted "There's an A-A-Adam!". He jumped up and down ...
