Re: help with ctc & bigger schedule.
I forgot to say that we finish up by about 1:30 now doing all 3 guides. But give yourself some grace here - it takes a few weeks to get things going like you want it. I have a 6th grader in CTC too and I love the independence he now has with it and so does he! Hang in there!

Re: help with ctc & bigger schedule.
Hi there. I'm not on here much but we are halfway through ctc and bigger (as well as lhfhg) and I saw no one had responded yet. Until this year I was very structured with a schedule to mark off every bit of our day and I hopped around doing one or two boxes with a child then moving on. It worked gre...

Re: Considering HOD...how to do 3 different levels
You'll probably want to start by looking at the placement chart and see where each child places. Once you do that you may see that you have some different options as to how to combine kids. We use 3 guides very successfully! Our days flow quite smoothly now that we have a routine. I used to try and ...

Re: Just ordered for next year!!!!
We are doing LHFHG, Bigger, and CTC and loving all 3! We finish them all by lunch each day and do DITHOR (and a foreign language) with my older two afterwards. Be sure to allow yourself time to get things going and don't get discouraged if it takes a few weeks. It will be so worth it! You could stag...

Re: Narration question
I just wanted to say that if you are using LHFHG for your 5 year old I think the story time in it is excellent in teaching children to narrate! Children practice retelling by discussing questions with you or by acting out events from the story some days and many other ways. My five year old is lovin...

Re: Starting HOD tomorrow!
Just wanted to say WOO HOO for you!! :D :D We are doing all those except for LHTH and loving it! I just can't tell you what a blessing HOD has been for us! My kiddos stagger started and we hit a good pace right away. Don't get discouraged though, like others said, if it seems to take longer at first...

Re: How long for Bigger math each day? Singapore 2A/2B
Sorry, I can't figure out how to link it but I copied and pasted below a quote by Carrie. You can search for it by typing in "bigger time per box". I've found these times, including math, to be pretty close to what it works out to be for us. :D Bigger takes 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours to do including math,...

Re: Valentine's Day fun - Why do you "heart" Heart of Dakota?
I have so many reasons that I "heart" HOD but a few in particular just this week. My oldest doing CTC has told me several times that he loves his "history book" and history cd. He usually begs for us to do storytime first when I check-in with him because he loves the books we've read during that tim...

Re: Singapore Questions
Just thought I'd share our experience of coming into Singapore mid-game. :D Our 5th, 2nd, and K started using it in the fall. Prior to that the older two used a common math program in a christian school since k until we finished it up at home last year. My 2nd grader had some similar issues with get...

MrsMandy, Well, I don't have a high schooler yet but I just can't resist reading these posts! :D In case you haven't found an answer about the student pages I thought I would share a bit since we are doing CTC. They are absolutely beautiful - and not even close to a simple worksheet! I believe they ...

Re: Scheduling Bigger and LHFHG, help and advice needed!
Hi Tracy! Welcome to homeschooling and HOD! One of the first things I was told when we began homeschooling a year ago was to give yourself lots of grace!! It certainly can take a bit to get into a routine! I think you will continue to love using HOD as you find what type of routine or schedule (or l...

Wow! Thank you SO much, Carrie, for taking the time to give such a detailed answer! I had found a couple more threads that did help but you absolutely nailed what I was asking with your response here. :D I am so glad I asked because I will be more confident in leading my kiddos to do this! And again...

Re: I can't decide between History or Girl Interest -CTC
We are new to CTC so I thought I would share what we are doing since you haven't gotten a response yet. I'm sure someone with more wisdom will answer soon! In the catalog it says that "6th and 7th graders should listen to the History Interest set read aloud, or read the Extension books (as scheduled...
