Re: Beyond for a 6yo?..any thoughts?
If your son fits into the Beyond according to the skills placement then he should do quite well. I am currently using Beyond for my 6.5 year old and have used it previously for another one of my children when she was 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 as well. (I also used it for my oldest boy when he was 7) For all of...

Re: need HELP with the attitude sin
Oh my do I know what you are talking about! My ds10 and I can go around and around with conversations like you described. And I think I've addressed the situation in a very similar way - identifying the sin, talking about choices, praying, taking away computer, etc. What I have found very effective ...

Re: How to keep child's full attention during lesson?
I would take that quote from Charlotte Mason on 10 minutes of concentrated attention as a goal to work toward. Your dd may need to start with 2 or 3 minutes of focus and then build up to the 10 minutes over the course of time (a month, or six months, or a year- each child is different). I vividly re...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?
We started in mid-July since we had been off since May 1. New baby and her surprise medical condition put us off of school for almost three months. But we are back at it and all of us love having the structure and routine back! My oldest two (ds10 and dd8) are doing Preparing, dd6 is in LHFHG/Beyond...

Re: LHTH at 5 yo
I just wanted to pop in here and add my two cents if that's ok. :D I was following this thread and as I was reading all of the great questions and advice I kept thinking that combining and going 1/2 pace might be a great long-term plan... if one of your goals is to combine. I have combined my oldest...

Re: LHFHG for 1st grade?
From how you described your son it sounds like LHFHG would be the right place to start with him. It might appear to be "light" or "easy" but there are so many skills and habits that are taught in this level that when you do the guide as written you will soon realize just how much is being accomplish...

Re: A Surprise Perk!
Don't feel bad... we didn't do them at the beginning of our HOD journey either. By the time we got into the Beyond guide I tried them and realized just how much the children enjoy them and they add so much to the learning experience and don't take much time to do! Now I join them with the jum...

That sounds like an extremely workable plan! That's the wonderful thing about homeschooling (and doing it with HOD) is that you can arrange and adjust things to fit your family's particular needs!

Re: Military HOD Families
We're a Marine family stationed in Pensacola, FL!
We've been overseas before and I agree with Heidi that you should take at least a few books with you in case your household goods is delayed.
Praying that your PCS goes smoothly!

Re: Is anyone happy @ combining?
I've combined my oldest two for the past three years. It kind of just happened as my oldest son was not eager to do anything school-related (except read) until he was past 6 years old and my oldest daughter was more than eager (and able) to start schooling. We started with LHFHG when ds was 6 and dd...
