Re: Using HOD and working
How old is your daughter and how well does she work independently? I drive a school bus and am therefore gone morning and afternoon, also. My 12 year old does almost all of it independtly. Though we haven't been doing certain aspects...(poetry, painting, hands-on). We could. And, she could do them o...

Re: Need advice on Curriculum Choices
I say, if you can afford to switch, then switch. Don't kill his love of learning. My youngest has had such a better homeschooling experience than my oldest. I wish I had been more relaxed in the way I taught him.

Re: New here and looking at CTC for 8th grade
I just wanted to welcome you. I understand how you feel about the love of learning and finally finding such a God honoring, gentle program. Yet, it is still so full! After ten years of homeschooling and watching my oldest totally lose his love of learning I am so glad to have chosen a different way ...

Re: So we compared CLE and R&S English. . .
Thanks so much! Planning to make the switch as well. (From BJU) Anxious to see how it goes for us.
Sidenote: I am LOVING the looks of CTC. We will be doing it this fall, also. And, we get the wonderful priviledge to go to Rome in a few weeks! What awesome timing!

Re: Mixing curriculum?
On the DITHOR, yes, you only need one teacher guide for all grade levels then a student book for each child at his level. I would seriously consider combining the boys' history. It wasn't mentioned, but you could even combine the CTC history and use the extension books for your older. If you needed ...

Re: Daughter showed off CTC at our Homeschool Fair
What a GREAT idea! Both the fair and showing off CTC! We may have to borrow this idea. I am really looking forward to my daughter starting CTC this fall.

Re: Using HOD for high school?
I would then go ahead and start him in CTC next year, do RTR for 8th and then the next program for 9th. This is exactly what I am planning on doing. I figure I will have to re-evalute each year, but currently our plan is to do CTC for 7th and progress from there. You can always add in more if you f...

Re: math misery
My best advice after 10 years of struggling with my son and his math issues, I would say seek help NOW! Don't wait. We have tried every curriculum under the sun. Due to financial restraints I never got professional help for him. I will say he is a very bright young man (18 now). Yet, still functions...

Re: Mapping...
My dd had a tough time with the mapping assignment from Journeys in Time where she was supposed to keep adding different routes to the same basic map. I finally let her create a new map each time and she was happy as a clam. She kept finding that she already had writing in the place she needed to d...

Re: Mapping...
I would also welcome any mapping help with Bigger. This has been the only aspect of this program that I have not been partial to. Particularly better maps for my daughter to copy from. I am not that great at geography myself and some of the maps have been fine for reference but difficult for us to u...
