Re: High school questions... 3 years left.
Well, I think I need to print out your post and think through it some more away from the computer screen... Plus I'm tired, so everything's blurring together. But I kinda' get the gist. I have to think about how I would schedule both her and my younger dd, since our afternoons are mostly taken...

Re: High school questions... 3 years left.
Thanks, Julie.
I assume your son does it all pretty much independently. Do you then have discussion times daily or weekly? How do you follow up on what he's done?
Followup and grading work consistently is one of the hardest parts of high school for me as the teacher.![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: High school questions... 3 years left.
I think if we were going to skip a year, as far as the history content/time period is concerned, it would most likely be Early American because dd feels like we've beat that one to death already. She asked me if we could do a 10-minute Early American course next time: "And then there were the explo...

Re: High school questions... 3 years left.
She's on Week 20 of 36 in her current lesson plans. She *needs* to be done by mid-June, or July 1st at the latest, as we'll be knee-deep in performance prep for the end of July. How many hours a day should one expect Geography to take? I think I saw 6 or 6-1/2 hours somewhere... Yeah, we would defin...

Re: High school questions... 3 years left.
Could she finish out ancients this year and count that for world history? Some states don't say what time frame you need to cover for world history. You could then do the geography followed by the 2 American history years (which will have government and economic--at least that is what I think I hav...

High school questions... 3 years left.
I'm trying to make some decisions for my current 9th grader for the rest of high school. I'm trying to decide where to place her if she were to finish with HOD. My first thought is the most obvious, which is to have her do World Geography, but I'm also thinking about how to have her finish world his...

Re: A question about placement, spelling, and LDs
Thank you, ladies. Sorry I couldn't get back to this thread before. Busy weekend! :P I hadn't realized that List 2 of Beyond is also in Bigger. I hadn't even checked yet, or if I had, I might not have recognized that they were the same words, so I'm glad y'all mentioned it! Very helpful. We started ...

A question about placement, spelling, and LDs
My 5th grader (according to where she'd be in public school) is behind due to a speech disorder and, I believe, dyslexia. I've read several threads here about the issues of concern, and I've printed, studied, and circled boxes on the placement chart. I think she *could* do Preparing, and I had sever...

Re: DD placed into Bigger but struggling -- is this normal?
kayrenee, you have no idea how stressed I was about even asking these questions on the board to begin with! It was so nice of you to tell me that was the right thing to do! I was just sure everyone out there in HOD-cyber-land was frustrated with me for asking a question that has probably been asked...

Re: DD placed into Bigger but struggling -- is this normal?
Here's my two cents. My belief is that the skill-building moves from guide to guide. So if you've finished Beyond (or any guide) or are even just starting out in a guide, that what is contained in your current guide in the first week, will be what you need to achieve by year's end. No one miraculou...

Re: DD placed into Bigger but struggling -- is this normal?
Jenn, I could've written your posts in this thread almost word for word. (You can see in my signature line that I have older children, as well.) I gave up on HOD after I had the same exact experience with Bigger two years ago that you're having with your daughter now, and some of the other guides, t...

Re: What's a good book that explains the Charlotte Mason met
My favorite Charlotte Mason resource is For the Children's Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. I like this one, and I also like A Charlotte Mason Education and More Charlotte Mason Education by Catherine Levison. These are very simple how-to books to get going with a CM education in your home... quic...

Re: Help W/High School Plan, Please
Look at the degree program(s) requirements for whatever field he might be interested in. I bet there *are* some requirements somewhere.... if not for school admission, then for whatever particular degree program he'll be enrolling in. You may not know yet at this point, and that's okay... just look ...

Re: Carrie: Beefing Up Chemistry in the Geography Guide
Thanks Motherjoy, I am not using this for my children who have already done Chemistry, I will be using this for my friends daughter that I am homeschooling who will need Chemistry next year. She will be in 11th grade and will need a full Chemistry credit. Carbon Chemistry is written for 9-14 yo's, ...
