Prayers re foreclosure and hsing....
HI ladies, I know I am super new here, but am requesting a huge prayer(or a million!). We received n ews yesterday that we are 90 days late in our mortgage. I won't give details, just know that I have extensive chronic health issues that led to medical debt, that led to our current situation. In Feb...

Re: Has anyone here switched from Unit Studies to HOD?
Thanks so much, ladies. I am at peace with switching to HOD. I am still planning on reading the next volume of FIAR-and will always keep their philosophy in my heart-but it is time for us to move on. Thank God for husbands-mine is able to point out the obvious and yet make me feel okay with what I f...

Celebrate with me!! DH IS ON BOARD WITH HOD!!!
:D My dh and I had a LONG and productive discussion about the direction of ds's education. He listened to me explain why I am doubtful about our current curriculum being a good fit for ds and myself. He listened to me pour my heart out about why I wanted a Christ-centered curriculum. This led to a d...

Has anyone here switched from Unit Studies to HOD?
I am currently using a literature based, laid back Unit Study curriculum (FIAR). When I pulled ds(8) back out of school, this was what I was familiar with, and it was inexpensive-so I quickly jumped into it. I think it is a wonderful program, I really do. We are a small family, and the runs to the l...

I wanted to pop in here to say thank you for all of your replies. I am fighting an unwelcome tummy bug at the moment and will post back when I can think straight.

Newbie also new to being a Christian-another question....
Hi again! Okay-another question. :) We are new to being protestant Christians-but my dh is agnostic. He allows me to take our dc to church, but praying is only at meal times with him. I recently bought both our dc a new Bible-NIV. One for my newly 13yo dd that is specifically for teen girls. The Adv...

Another newbie question...
Another newbie question.... Okay. After reading further through the catalog today, I am now concerned that this curriculum is one that is best used if started in Kinder. Am I wrong? My son is 8 and in the 2nd grade, but we are both new Christians and he is all over the place in his subjects. Has any...

Re: Newbie question about geography
Thanks for sharing Candice and Dawn!
This sounds fun, and what I am really craving right now is one subject flowing (in a natural way) into the next subject. I really want as many subjects tied together, in a non-forced way. (LOL. Does that make sense?)

Newbie question about geography
Hello.

Question for ya'll....I must have missed this in quickly reading the catalog-how/when is geography introduced? I am looking at Bigger or the one after that.
Thank you so much!
Christine

Re: Hello-1st time poster with a question....
Thanks, Nancy! This is even more encouraging! I should finish up our current curriculum by the end of January (we are Christmas schooling right now), so hopefully I will have time to devour the catalog, talk with my hubby and make some decisions! I'll direct further questions in another thread. :) C...

Re: Hello-1st time poster with a question....
Thanks, Ladies! That answers my first questions! Thanks for the links, too. I first read them when I found the website, but didn't see a whole week-just a day-so the peak at a week helped. Next question-how hard would it be to start this mid-year. Say, after the holidays? Would it be possible ...

Hello-1st time poster with a question....
Hi Ladies, I am waiting for my HOD catalog-just ordered it yesterday-and am guessing I will better understand how HOD works after I peruse it. Until then, a question(or two!).... Is HOD considered a literature-based curriculum? How flexible are the lesson plans? I haven't had a whole lot of success ...
