ACE Biology vs. Apologia

Hello! I noticed that Carrie has scheduled ACE Biology for science in the World History guide and when I looked at samples of the PACES, they do look quite good. But I also know that many homeschoolers use and love Apologia for Biology and I'm wondering why Carrie chose to use ACE over Apologia for ...

Question about Essentials in Writing....

Hi! My son is using Rod & Staff English 8 (the whole book) and Write with the Best Vol. 2 for his 9th grade writing curriculum. We are looking to do the World History guide next year for 10th grade and I'm wondering if he'll be fine using the 11th grade Essentials in Writing as scheduled in the guid...

I have a ds that successfully went from R&S English 2 to 4 (never did 3). It worked out just fine. :)

Question about EIW and grammar...

Hi, I was looking on the Essentials in Writing website and I noticed that the author states that his program requires no additional grammar. I'm wondering why Carrie chooses to continue with Rod & Staff English while also using EIW in the two upper guides? I definitely want to make sure my dc have e...

Re: Is There A Teacher's Guide for Singapore Math?

Yes, I agree, just make sure you get the Home Instructor's Guide and NOT the Teacher's Guide. The Teacher's Guide is designed for a classroom and is much more $$$.

Re: Singpore math in Bigger ? facts or no facts ?

I agree with kayrenee, you really need to drill those math facts. Singapore math is not really complete by itself, at least not in Singapore. They do add drill to the core math program.

I like Xtramath.com (computer based drill) and CalcuLadder (pen and paper drill).

Re: Is Singapore Primary Enough?

The only thing I've ever added is math fact drill. I feel like the workbook and textbook alone is enough for most kids. I *might* consider adding one of the Extra Practice books if I felt a particular child needed more review.

Re: LHTH slight disappointments, considering LHFHG

I can't imagine doing Little Hearts with a 3 or 4 year old. If LHTH isn't working, I would do something else in the meantime and wait to do LHFHG until he is 5 or 6. I don't really have any other advice except I wouldn't start LHFHG yet.

Re: phonics with The Reading Lesson

When I did The Reading Lesson with my oldest son, I did it it one year for his 1st grade year (we did something else for his K year). I would think you could easily spread it out over 2 years though if you want. Sorry I'm not much help, but that's just how we did it. :)

Re: Math help

Oh, I didn't realize this child was coming out of ps! Yes, I really like Singapoe too, it's so great for conceptual understanding. :) Just have her daughter take the placement test and see where she places and go from there. :)
