Re: TRL vs. Scaredy Cat Reading System
I don't know how many samples you were able to see, and from what parts of the book they were, but I have found TRL to be very good. I went into it thinking I would skip some too, as our son had already completed a kindergarten curriculum. When I actually got my hands on the book and looked through ...

Re: To buy books or not?
I really think it depends on your library. Although our library "system" has many of the books, most are not at our closest library. I request them through interlibrary loan and have no idea how long it will take to come. Sometimes in two days, sometimes two weeks. Also, some of the interlibrary loa...

Re: What age/grade for keyboarding?
I recall that I didn't learn typing until 7th or 8th grade... but that was a looong time ago! ha! Well, I hate to even admit this, as I am aging myself, but we took typing in 9th or 10th grade and it was an elective! :) Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I think I'll just let Big J play on grandma'...

What age/grade for keyboarding?
I am wondering what age kids are learning keyboarding these days and what everyone is using? I hadn't given it much thought, but my mother-in-law was telling me how interested Big J was in her typewriter and she lets him use it everytime they come over. I think he is a little young, but am wondering...

Re: What comes next?
Yes, Resurrection to Renaissance (RTR) comes out this August. Actually, you can look at the books in the bookstore link now. You have to scroll way down to the bottom. The package is supposed to be on the homepage by mid February and you can order the books this spring I believe (I think I saw that ...

Congratulations! After flailing around with this and that I finally settled in with TRL after finding HOD and we are making real progress now too. Isn't it great!

Praying very hard for your family and that your husband can find a job soon, and that he can have peace. I am so sorry.

Re: Week-In Review 1-25-10 to 1-29-10
I don't post often, but thought I would show how not to do the water activity for unit 7 of LHTH. I placed little J on a chair (Big J had to help with this one) and ran to get my camera. When I came back I found him dangling like a monkey. I guess the chair I gave him did not allow him to submerse h...

Re: 5.5 year old in Beyond?
We are in the same boat (March birthday, probably Sept-Oct start for Beyond) and I plan to place him in Beyond and get a feel for it. I may do 1/2 speed at first, we will see. We are doing very well with LHFHG at full speed and are reading books from the boys and girls lists for Beyond as well, so I...

Re: Starting back up with 4dc, new baby, wild toddler. Advice??
I don't have time to read the other responses right now, but I am wondering if part of your son's behavior could be sensory issues. We have a son with sensory processing disorder, and it is just a thought. Either way, these suggestions might help. 1. Have him push heavy loads down the hall and aroun...

Re: Reading Made Easy vs. The Reading Lesson
I am not familiar with RME, but what I like about TRL is the fact that the reading is right there too. Each chapter starts with letter sounds and/or blends, etc and then goes into words, then two word phrases, then reading short sentences. It is very self-contained. There are key words identified at...

Re: Frustrated, Need Some Help
As I read your post I can so sense your feeling of being overwhelmed. I can't think of a better homeschooling plan for "overwhelmed" than HOD. You could do LHFHG and just plug away at those boxes. It is so easy! If he is done with K math, you can use 1A & 1B with Little Hearts. The reading will come...
