Re: "the reading lesson" or "reading made easy" ?

I have not tried RME, but I have tried other things prior to finding The Reading Lesson. I love The Reading Lesson - it is simple, yet thorough. Not overly busy (pictures really distract my son), but attractive. I love the way the reading is embedded in the book to match the phonics rules you have l...

Re: Question on where to go next? 4 yr old ready for LHFHG?

I am in your shoes. My son will be about a month shy of 4 when he is done with LHTH this fall. I considered LHFHG at 1/2 speed, but I don't think he is ready for the history and storytelling. So I am going to somewhat repeat LHTH and do my own thing. This is what I am doing if it helps: -Bible story...

Re: To bring them home from ps or not...?

I probably really don't have any good advice, so many things to consider. I will pray for you and your family and that the right decisions will be made.

Isn't it fun! I was there buying Beyond. I haven't even had a chance to look at it yet :( This was my first convention and it was great!

Off to Cincinnati!!!!

We leave in a couple of hours - Yipee! Not looking forward to the 6 hour drive, and we can't stay the whole weekend :( , but I am very excited. This is my first homeschool convention. Maybe I'll see some HODies there?

Jump from Little Hearts to Beyond

Just trying to plan - our son is doing very well with Little Hearts and we add in extra reading or art, etc. He has no trouble with listening and we have been reading from the boy and girl storytime packs from Beyond. We are on track with TRL and that is going well. I am trying to figure out what to...

Re: Advice needed for newbie that just started today

My ds had a terrible time with the action rhymes at first and I could not figure out why. I just kept doing them and encouraged him to try to do them with me. I found after the first couple of weeks he was doing them decently the last 2 or 3 days. Eventually he started doing them from the beginning....

Re: When you get behind

I also second not skipping and not doing too much at once. We are almost always off on days in terms of day 1 being Monday and so on, but it doesn't really matter with this curriculum. You may find chances along the way to catch up a little by fitting an extra day in here or there.

Re: LHTH handwriting question

We have been doing the 1st grade handwriting book with LHFHG and it has worked out fine. You don't have to do every line and I have spread it out a bit more. I would think at age 5 your plan is a good one.

Need ideas for 4-yr-old, 2nd time through LHTH

Decided to come to the experts to help me figure out how to tweak LHTH for our youngest. We started him in LHTH last fall at just 3 with the plan to do it two years in a row. He is doing wonderfully and I now realize I need to tweak some for round 2. He will start this fall, about a month before he ...

Re: O/T Anyone else on Spring Break this week?

We were not planning on it, but ds has swim class this week right during school time, so I have decided we will just take one. The good news is our son with a lot of fears had a lot of fun his first day of swim class. :D

Re: LHFHG or BLHFHG

My son placed in the middle too, actually leaning towards Beyond a little. However, due to his age I chose LHFHG and have not regretted it at all. I think it is a great foundation to prepare children for the learning methods HOD uses. For example, my son was totally lost with narration initially and...
