Re: Is this okay for a written narration?
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. Besides FLL and a little WWE, she hasn't written much.

Is this okay for a written narration?
My dd is 9 and this is her first written narration: Noah went into the ark with his three sons and their wives and two of every kind of animal. God shut the door of the ark. While Noah and his family and all of the animals were in the ark, God sent rain and made the water from the oceans come up for...

CtC read aloud question
I was wondering if we could go back and forth between the "History" read alouds and the "Girl Interest" read alouds ? There are a few books in the History read alouds I know my dd won't like and a few in the Girl Interest I don't want to miss. There are also a few in the History pkg I don't want to ...

Re: Preparing history project - Unit One
This is likely a dumb question.... Why have we been instructed to draw the symbols onto a cut out of a shield only to cut those symbols out (after coloring them) and not actually use that shield pattern? I am reading the instructions over and over and not getting the process for some reason.... The...

we gave up on the clay recipe ...
I had some Sculpey clay and I googled "sumerian cunieform cylinder" to get a better idea of what it should look like. My son is using his swiss army knife to carve in the symbols he drew out. He's looking at them in a mirror to reverse them on the cylinder. Then we will bake the clay as per the Scul...

Re: DS just not "into" it =(
My ds, 12, is very much like your ds. I just want to encourage you to keep plugging away. He may never be enthusiastic about school but HOD works and so do Carrie's methods. My ds pets the cat, picks his toes, watches the grass grow, etc while I'm reading BUT he DOES remember. Maybe your son is reta...

Would someone please critique this?
My 12 yo ds wrote this and I would appreciate knowing how to gently critique his writing. Maybe tell me word for word what to say? I haven't really required any formal writing from him until HOD  Noah entered the Ark with his wife and three sons as well as their wives. He also brought with him...

Re: Is there a book version of the Diana Waring CDs?
I remember when DD first plugged in that first cd. She came out of her room after the first listening and said, "ummmm, Mom???? Have you listened to this lady?", in tone that indicated I may not approve. So I thought to myself, "hmmmm, what could be on there that she thinks I would find offensive"....

Re: Is there a book version of the Diana Waring CDs?
Well, the reason I listened with him was that I thought I'd kill two birds and have him listen while we took my dd to piano lessons. He is an auditory AND visual learner, thank goodness, so whatever he hears or sees he remembers. I really was neutral when I listened to the CD :D Even when ds said he...

Is there a book version of the Diana Waring CDs?
My ds and I are really not enjoying the CDs and I'm wondering if there is a book version we could use instead?
Thanks!

Thanks!

Re: Could I use a Timeline book in PHFHG?
Thanks Julie, that was helpful! I enjoyed seeing the timeline ideas. I bought the timeline books because I liked them, my dc were not impressed
I think my dd will get much more out of the HOD index card style time line

Re: Notebooking for CtC - I need to keep it simple
You're welcome! :) Glad I could help. I know you didn't ask, but I noticed from another thread that y'all are also doing Preparing (our very favorite guide :D ). I was going to say that we set our notebook for Preparing up almost the exact same way. The science section is the same. The history sect...
