Re: New guides for part of high school?
LOL water2wine. That was a helpful answer  It's nice to know someone is going before me! We live in a state with certain high school requirements, but not times/days in session. DC has to put in a certain number of "hours" to earn credits. This is required if they wish to "graduate". I'm hopin...

Re: New guides for part of high school?
Thanks for the link. I can understand that CTC could not count toward high school credit, but my oldest would only be in 7th that year, but in 10th during the last guide. The max age without extensions on that one is 14 and mine will be 15 and 10th grade. So is it possible to use the last two guides...

New guides for part of high school?
In planning, I'd like to keep my dc together as much as possible. I feel my oldest two will be easiest to keep together most of the way through schooling as they are only a little more than 2yrs apart. One of my ideas has them landing in CTC when they are in 4th and 7th grade (they would be 9/10 and...

Re: Latin?
My dc are showing interest as well. I think I'll start them out with a study of prefixes and suffixes, then move to English From the Roots Up, and then start a Latin Program. By then, much of the vocab should be much easier and they can focus on the harder concepts of grammar, translating, and readi...

Re: How would you prepare?
Thanks Julie. I'll use that sample to help me out. I'm feeling pretty good about placement now. With narration being all that's holding us back, I'll be glad to work on that and allow ds to follow his interests, as well as be able to follow the guide! He'll love working from "the teacher's book". :w...

Re: How would you prepare?
my3sons- ds will be about 9.5/10 at the beginning of CTC (if we go that route). All the skills EXCEPT strong narration are there-- that's the ONLY thing keeping him from fully fitting into CTC. He can narrate...just not as strong in this area as I feel he should be. I am working on it with him and s...

Re: How would you prepare?
Thank you so much for the encouragement...I already feel more at ease! I have looked at Write With The Best that is used with CTC and I love it! I'm sure ds will too. Is there a program that is used in Preparing as well or is writing just from R&S or of Carrie's own creation?? I'd like to do a littl...

Re: How would you prepare?
I considered doing Preparing first, but CTC has more independence (which my ds needs and wants) therefore less teaching time (which mom needs and wants!), doesn't contain any american history (we have about done ourselves out on American history), and considering ds is VERY interest and challenge dr...

How would you prepare?
If you were going to be starting CTC having not done HOD before, how would you prepare? My ds placed on the line for Preparing and CTC, but more on the CTC side. We're familiar with CM style lessons. We've done narration, copywork, dictation, etc. Ds is not strong in narration skills, and although w...

Re: Placement
Thank you My3sons, I think we will start with CTC whether we start in 4th or 5th. He is quite ready other than the narration, so there is no reason to let that one thing hold us back an entire guide. We'll be working on that skill between now and the time we are able to start anyway through our curr...

Re: Placement
I'm very tired and I'm going to try post a reply anyway...so bear with me :) I can see that working if we do start HOD for 4th, but what if we start in 5th? He places into either one at the point, but a year later I would imagine CTC would be the likely placement. Will he be missing out by not doing...

Placement
We have been taking a non-traditional approach to early elem. schooling with ds and I'm trying to decide what to do with him. I can't decide between Preparing and CTC. It's too close on the placement chart. We aren't quite ready to start, as I don't know if we're ready for more formal schooling star...
