Average Time Spent Per Day?
I know it will vary but I was wondering how long it takes you to get through everything each day? I would be using this with one child. I have used HOD before but don't remember much about the time commitment. I now have a much busier lifestyle and am trying to find a curriculum that I like, is easy...

Re: The mid-year slump
You are right. This time of year does seem to bring out the character issues in both kid AND parent. I have a lot of flaws. I am very ADD about things. I am always all excited about things but I lose interest fast. I have to take breaks from things so I am able to focus on them again. I wish my mind...

The mid-year slump
Please tell me I am not the only one who has the mid-year slump. I starts around Christmas and last until about now when you figure out what a slacker you have been. LOL
So who will admit to the slump?
How do you get motivated again?

My daughter flew through her book.....
I am doing Bigger hearts with my older kids. The bible I chose for my daughter was too easy. She flew through it in two units instead of the NINE you are supposed to use it for. For some reason I did not notice that there was a reading schedule for it, I would have made her stick to that to spread i...

Re: Let's share our schedules!
I have not read through all the responses yet but I thought I would lay out my "not really a schedule" schedule  We get up at about 8:30-9am 9am: Breakfast, dressing, some cartoons, dogs let out, laundry started, email checked, and my husband's lunch made 10-10:30am: start school with the big k...

Re: The Reading lesson and struggling reader
I am having these same troubles with my 6yo. He knows all the sounds but is having a hard time blending them. Once he starts to struggle he is shutting down and he will not focus on it. I would consider backing off for a couple weeks because I know he will learn to read in his own time but I have a ...

Re: 6yo struggling with directions
Thank you for your responses. I guess my mommy instinct that raised the red flag was right. I am glad I noticed this before it became too big of a habit and I can nip it in the bud. Tomorrow I will try to start working on this with him.

6yo struggling with directions
I have shared before about my 6yo being super hyper and this being the first year I really focus on school with him. We have only done three days of work but I am seeing a pattern emerge. He is having a really hard time following directions and doing just what I ask him to do on his written work. Fo...

I did the first lesson orally with my kids because it was review for them and they are not great with spelling. I plan on getting a marker board to use later on. I am glad that others are doing this as well.

WONDERFUL!
Since we are not able to get out to church and we are behind schedule for getting started with school I figured today was as good as any to start with HOD. We will definately have to find our schedule groove. Today things were delayed because I had to wait for my Grandmother-in-law (she lives with u...

The Trailblazing Life of Daniel Boone and How Early Americans Took to the Road by Cheryl Harness? LOL I picked up a couple other books but this one looks like it is fun, ...

Laura I really appreciate you sharing about the attitude. I think I will keep that line of thought in mind for my son. :) Since at the moment we have no way to get out to church and my husband works all day I think we will start tomorrow. I figure we are kind of behind this year so it will not hurt ...

Re: About Getting Up On Time...
I am glad to hear you found a solution that is working. I just want to throw some thoughts at you... I have NEVER been a morning person. As a child I would be sent to bed at a normal bedtime and I remember laying in bed tossing and turning and not being able to get to sleep until late. In the mornin...
