I feel like I'm leaving a family...
but I can't lurk here anymore. I wanted to say thank you so much to all of you wonderful, kind-hearted, encouraging moms who have helped me over the past couple of years to get into the swing of things and take off with our family's homeschooling journey. Heart of Dakota is such an amazing and wonde...

Re: RtR's Beautiful Girlhood
Might I also recommend any book by Susan Hunt? Most particularly True Woman. Susan wrote ABC Bible verses which is included in LHTH and has written numerous books on Biblical Womanhood. She leads our ladies' Bible study at my church and is a very wise and godly lady. I too grew up without a godly fe...

Re: HELP! Singapore 2B troubles!
Hopefully the advice you've gotten will help you through it. We had to abandon the Singapore ship because it was sinking fast! I couldn't sit through any more tears (mine and my daughters)

Re: What do you use for Phonics?
With dd, after 100 EZ lessons we went to the Dick and Jane Readers, then to the pathway readers, then the HOD ERs. I've heard that phonics is a rung on the ladder, not an end unto itself. IMO after 100 EZ they should begin to read books if the program was successful. Someone else may be able to give...

Re: Stuck Between LHTH & LHFHG
Hey Shannon, My Noah was struggling with LHFHG so after trying to tweak this way and that way, I shut it down completely. I am reading books to him that hold his interest and I am doing the Christian Liberty Press Liberty Mathematics for K, Adventures in Phonics and Hearts and Hands. It is classical...

Re: Singapore struggles
Thanks Edie, I do hesitate to change her program... afraid of creating gaps and such, but at this point I think it may be what she needs. She is in 2B near the end and looking ahead at the 3 set which I have already purchased, I don't see it getting any easier. I am finding that I struggle with the ...

Singapore struggles
Have any of you had a Singapore struggler who excelled with another program? I know Singapore is spiral learning and I think I need something more concrete and repetative for dd. I wanted to get some feedback on other math programs.. (I hope this is an allowed discussion)

Re: Readers?
My dd started with the Bob Books, then the Dick and Jane Readers, then the Rod and Staff Pathway Readers. She wouldn't have been ready to go straight from Bob Books to the Emergents (including the Beginner's Bible), but she loved the Pathway Readers...all about the farm, chores, animals, etc. R & S ...

Re: Frustrated 3rd grader
Well ladies, I watched more closely today. I let her read her grammer instructions and tell me what she was supposed to do and she did it joyfully and followed directions which has not been happening...that and a very detailed narration of her independent reading selection coupled with the deer in t...

Frustrated 3rd grader
I love, love, love HOD, but I am wondering if I am loving it for myself, or if it is best for dd8. Let me start by saying this is not a discipline issue. That is where I always start. DD is frustrated and is having a hard time focusing on listening to the read alouds, history, etc. She can hardly na...

Re: Beyond Math Question
Admittedly, I have never followed the HOD hands on math activities. We plug along with one lesson a day and if dd gets stuck on a concept, or if I feel like she needs some more work in order to grasp something completely, I'll go online and look up math games/activities for that concept. We are doin...

Re: question about singapore math for 1st grader?
Hi, I remember having that issue as well. It confused me too!! I think I went ahead and had my dd do it the normal way and it worked out fine without causing any trouble later.

Re: Preparing, how do you do it all??
Hi Katherine, I know you don't know me, but I was wondering if you could give something a try. There is a book by John Rosemond called Parenting By The Book - Biblical Wisdom for Raising your child. I feel like I am being paid to advertise for it as much as I have recommended it lately! If I won the...
