ideas for a child with auditory processing issues

I am just finishing this school year using BLGFHG with my own two children and for the last couple of months have started homeschooling my nephew too. My nephew is 9 years old and is adopted from Thailand. He was brought home just before his 5th birthday. He was born premature and spent a majority o...

You can always go half-pace at first if it all seems like too much to begin with, picking up speed as you and your children are more comfortable with the schedule and program.

Re: They all look good - help me pick my read-alouds!

We have liked all of the books so far but there have definitely been favorites: Biography - Helen Keller Fantasy - A Cricket In Times Square (probably my sons all time favorite), we also read the Trumpet of the Swan and really enjoyed it (again) Mystery - Phoebe the Spy by Judith Berry Griffin (we a...

Re: Anyone use your own arithmetic?

We are using Beyond and are using the Saxon K-3 program for Math. We just do this in place of the math listed in the Teacher's Guide. It works out just fine!

Re: BOB books?

Thank you ladies! Now that I knew what to look for, I did find that our library carries some of them. I'll be heading there this afternoon to check them out. I am looking for readers for my daughter. She is just finishing up phonics and is enjoying being able to read on her own but is getting sick o...

BOB books?

I have seen many of you mention using BOB books for your beginning readers. I have never heard of them before and don't know about them. What are they? And where can you get them? Are they usually available at a local library?

Thank you! Stephanie

Re: New with Combining Question

I combined my 5 year old and 7 year old this year in Beyond. Though they were at their own levels in the Math and LA portions of the program. My 5 year old has done really well keeping up and understanding but I have to remember not to expect as much from her (in things like narration) as my 7 year ...

Re: Question about Beyond Storytime!

I am doing Beyond with my DS and DD right now who are 20 months apart. We have really enjoyed doing the storytime together. I have had a difficult time just picking one book to read (there are so many good ones to choose from) - so, I choose one that we read for storytime during school and then if t...

All you need is lined paper for her to do the copywork in. She will be copying a part of the poem you are reading that week each day.

Re: LA in BLHFHG

Copywork is scheduled daily in the language arts box as copying part of the weekly poem. :D That's right. I am doing Beyond now with both of my kids. The handwriting is covered by the copywork that is scheduled in the Language Arts box. For first or second grade, I think that it is enough without a...

Re: math

I use Saxon. I really like their K-3 program. It is very hands on and thorough (sometimes too thorough, but I just shorten some of the lessons). My kids have both done so well with it. I thought about changing to Singapore when I switched to HOD but decided not to because my kids were already doing ...

Re: Love the books in Beyond!!

We are loving the books too! We have enjoyed each one....and because we are enjoying them all so much we read several from each genre. We only choose one to during "school" time but read the others as extras, like before bed. We just finished "The Cricket in Times Square" which turned out to be one ...
