What dictation levels are included in Bigger?
What dictation levels are included in Bigger? We are doing level 2 now and will need 3 and potentially the first part of 4. If levels 3 and 4 are not in Bigger, where could I get a copy of them?

Re: doing CTC in half a year
I just went through this last year but a different curriculum. My baby girl was born in April. Personally (and I think this is what you were asking?), I would take it easy on yourself and your son. The last 2 months of pregnancy were exhausting for me (mid 30's), you may even get bedrest (do you hea...

Re: Afternoons, socialization, and a philosophy of life
Mariaw (and others), I admire your post. It was so concise. And I DO know your kids and I DO know it is a big deal to sit for an hour and read library books! I envy those you for having made this decision and been able to stick by your guns. I, too, would rather stay home every afternoon. I wa...

Re: A Quick Spelling Poll
We tried traditional spelling for 2 years. Although my dd had straight A's and passed nearly every test, 2 weeks later, she couldn't remember how to spell a given word. She had excelled at short term memory and there wasn't an opportunity for long term memory. We tossed up our hands and gave dictati...

Re: Should I use flash cards with Singapore math 1A?
How old is your dc? I started 1A with my dd when she was 5 and tried flash cards and found myself beating my head against a wall for 3 years (no kidding). But then she suddenly got it around the time she turned 7. Sure, the kids will naturally memorize up to sums of 5 and 6 but past that, I found so...

Re: When to start IYW? or do I?
WOW!!! Thank you SO much for such a thoughtful response! Since you clearly have a better grasp of CM, writing and the like, may I ask your humble opinion on where to go from here? If so, please read on, otherwise, please accept my deepest gratitude and have a wonderful day. My dc are 5 and 7 (almost...

When to start IYW? or do I?
I am wondering when kids start a writing program with HOD? I saw Write with the Best is scheduled with Creation. There are 2 other writing programs (Ignite Your Writing) in the catalog but I don't see them scheduled anywhere, yet are leveled 4/5. I am looking for short stories, autobiographies, jour...

Re: Toddler Activities!
There is also the old stand by: keep a bucket or two of toys the child can only play with when the olders are doing school. Also, having a bucket you can swap out (it is full of toys and activites, stored away in a closet for a month). Then you move your buckets around: 1 to hide in the closet, 1 fo...

Re: Bigger has extensions??
CLE? CQLA? I haven't heard of these before. No matter. You gave me more than enough ideas and reiterated WHY I chose HOD. I am making this too complicated and it doesn't need to be.

Re: Bigger has extensions??
Okay, so that beefs up the science and history. How did you handle beefing up the language arts, writing, spelling, math, etc. Okay, math is easy - we use our math program at the level for the child. What about the other subjects?

Bigger has extensions??
I read in one of the posts that Bigger has extensions to help beef it up for older kids. Is that true?

Re: Carrie or Julie - help please
What about keeping her at Bigger-right like I planned and having her do R&S 3 twice a week for the next 2 years to get her more in line with HOD? This would ensure we are still practicing our grammar, slow her down, and give her lots of practice copying proper structure?? Granted, I would love to se...

Jennifer, First, my friend, breath. I promise you it will be okay - I think we can all agree on that note. I have been doing this for 5 years now - started at the preschool level. I assure you that you are not off your rocker. God brought you to it, He will get you through it. Now, if I may make som...
