Re: Got my Bigger Hearts box...

We just got our Bigger Hearts box today, and I agree that everything looks amazing! I want to start it NOW! Dd was super excited to look at all her new stuff and is looking forward to it, too!

Re: Preparing for 7yo?

Thank you! I think we're definitely going with BHFHG along with DITHOR. I also think I'll get the extension package as well, but not push it. More just allow her to read them in her free time rather than a "part of school". Dd loves to read though so I think she'll enjoy having additional books to r...

Preparing for 7yo?

Hi! I am planning to come back to HOD after we finish out our current year. I have looked at the placement charts numerous times, but I am still not sure what the best choice will be for my dd. She will be 7yo when we start HOD again, and she solidly fits in the Preparing guide in all areas. I'm not...

Re: Starting handwriting with a 4 year old?

I'd go ahead and give it a shot. If you find out she's not ready for it yet, then you can just set it aside and pick it up again later once her fine motor skills have had a chance to develop a bit more. We started dd on A Reason for Handwriting K right before her 4th birthday, and it's been going ve...

Re: LHFHG paper quail

I'm not sure if we did it right, but ours was a paper airplane shape, too. We just drew a beak and eyes at the pointed end and feathers on the back part. Dd and ds loved them even though they didn't look like actual quail.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to remember that when we get to unit 10 in a couple weeks!

Re: Difficult First Day, Anyone???

Overall, I would say our homeschool journey has been pleasant, but we have definitely had bad days. Dd absolutely LOVES LHFHG, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have days where she isn't difficult. It's also hard to get a real feel for school after the first day. It took us a little bit of time to g...

Re: How long for LHFHG??

It takes us anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on what activities are scheduled for the day. We break it up into several little segments though so we are never doing school in one big chunk.

Re: Advice for a newbie???

I don't photocopy any of the workbooks. The workbooks used in LHFHG are relatively inexpensive so I don't fret over having to buy new ones when my youngest does the program in a few years. It would probably cost me more in ink and paper to photocopy anyway since I don't have a decent printer/copier....

My kids love it, too, and can't wait until we get to the music portion of dd's lessons. They enjoy dancing around the room as they listen to it then ask me to replay it again and again and again!

Re: Awanas and/or memory verses?

We plan to do both, but dd is in Cubbies so she'll only have two verses (one for LHFHG and one for Awanas) each week to memorize. We'll do HOD verses during school time and save the Awanas verse for the weekend.
