Re: Skip a guide?
Okay, gotcha now. He does easily place in Ressuriction to Reformation especially in his writing skills. I wouldn't skip a guide if we had time to finish them all before highschool but we don't. However, he's never had the human body science that is in CTC. What it mess him up for future guides if I ...

Re: Read-aloud question
My husband and I take time to read a classic type of book that is above our children's reading level. It exposes them to more great literature. Also, when my kids are transitioning to a higher reading lever, we read with them; they read a page, we read a page, doing that until the end of the book. T...

Re: Skip a guide?
Sorry I wasn't clear in my 1st post but this doesn't have to do with what guide he places into (I've used 3 of HOD's guides and have utilized their wonderful placement charts). Due to budget I didn't buy CTC this last school year and used what I already had which was PHFHG. However, if I were to use...

Re: Skip a guide?
Hi Lynn, I'll have to skip one guide if MTMM is the 8th grade level so that I'll be right on track for highschool, right? Skipping a guide is a very difficult choice. My son is going into 6th grade this summer (we hs year round). I was going to do CTC this year but since I had PHFHG I just decided t...

Re: My 8YO's handwriting
Ohhhh, I'm a stickler with printing and cursive. I've always told my boys that their writing is a reflection of them. I've always stressed the importance of doing their best and that it takes longer to do a sloppy job because then you have to re-do the work. Yep, I've made them re-do sloppy work (th...

Re: Grammar and my 10 yr. old!
Hi Rachel, R&S grammar, level 4, was very challenging. What I had my son do (he was 10, 5th grade using level 4) was create a grammar notebook that he'll continue to do as long as he is enrolled in grammar (forever, right?). For each rule/definition he wrote it down in his notebook and refers back t...

Re: Skip a guide?
Maybe I posted prematurely. I searched through past posts and found some great answers about skipping guides. However, if we were to skip CTC, he'd miss out on some great science that is scheduled in that guide...sigh!!! Not sure what to do. I could potentially use a different curriculum which cover...

Skip a guide?
My son just finished PHFHG but he is really desiring to study the presidents, states and wars. It looks like that is all scheduled in Revival to Revolution. However, if I stick to following the next guide, he won't go through Revival to Revolution unless he did it as a freshman (and he doesn't want ...

Preparing Guide and Language Arts
My 9 yr old son, who would have been entering 5th grade this August is staying home this year. I already had the Preparing Guide with Rod and Staff 4 so I thought I'd use that for his Language Arts. Do I need to add, Ignite your Writing, since he's going into 5th grade? I'm afraid there could be a s...

Clevels: Going to homeschool from PS
Carrie and Edie, Thank you for more of your very valuable advice! You wouldn't believe how many students in my sons 3rd grade ps class are being made to pay for tutors due to their "speed" of reading. I get the pleasure to read with these students a few days a week and most of them can read just fin...

Re: Reading levels: Going to homeschool from PS
Edie and Corrie, Thank you for your replies. I, personally, am not a fan of AR. Sometimes, I have the chance to oversee my sons class take their AR quizzes and I don't find the program very accurate at all. Plus, I know at my sons school they are struggling with the students starting to dislike read...

Reading levels: Going to homeschool from PS
I have a question regarding reading levels. My son is currently in our ps but will homeschooled once again next year. Unfortunately, he's in the accelerated reading program at school. He progresses thru reading levels thru school as long as he scores 80 to 100% on AR tests. This makes no sense to me...

Re: It is Heart of Dakota..... YES!
I love to hear how God is blessing others, especially during these "tight" times! California is a far travel for Carrie and her family but I sure wish they'd consider coming to one of our HS Conventions so a lot more families would learn about HOD!
