Re: HOD for Prek/K and MFW for older children?
Hi there! We did MFW for Pre K-1st grade. I really wanted to like this curriculum, but this year we are moving to HOD. Why? Well, one reason is because the "crafts" are pretty lame. Up until day 52 of first grade the bulk of "crafts" included writing a sentence, drawing a picture of the sentence wri...

I have checked the charts and I still cannot decide
Hello! I have an almost 6 year old who is working on MFW 1st grade, we are about half way through but I am looking forward to next year. She is ALMOST done with phonics. If I look on the charts, it LOOKS like beyond may be a good fit, but I still am not sure. Her reading is still kind of choppy and ...

Emerging Reader?
Hello, I have a 5 and a half year old who is just finishing up on her phonics. She can read, but she doesn't have a big interest in doing so. I think she still likes me to read to her most of all. I am wondering if I should get the emerging readers set next or just continue to read to her. I don't w...

Re: Singapore 2B brick wall
I do not have any ideas, but hey, I have seen LOTS of kids, even high school kids who can't figure that out yet! Hope someone has a good reply for you!

Re: HOD's History
Jennifer, I can speak for the Bigger guide. The main history readings are taken from two books written at the turn of the century that were editted and republished. They are very easy to read aloud. There is a conversational nature to the style of writing. The First Book in American History is more...

Re: HOD's History
I guess the only thing that can be said is the same as I ended my last post....HOD shows God's providential hand in all of history as HIStory, no matter the people involved or their religious views. God's hand is in everything and HOD is great at showing that to my kids, as well as showing them the...

Re: HOD's History
Well, here is another direct quote that is unmistakable, Ben Franklin considered himself a deist: My parents had early given me religious impressions, and brought me through my childhood piously in the dissenting [puritan]way. But I was scarce fifteen, when, after doubting by turns of several points...

HOD's History
I am wondering if someone can tell me what HOD's history is like. I have always thought that America was a christian nation but have been reading some quotes from the likes of Jefferson and others and have found out that they really weren't christians but actually Deists. Obviously every thing that ...

No thoughts of any aside of taking the verses you want them to learn and have them do that as copywork.

Re: All the extras of homeschooling
I would add to use the "extras" in moderation. I have family members whose boys are in school all day and then are in about two to three different sports a season. Well, the family is NEVER home, thank goodness for cell phones, or I'd never get to talk to them. They can't travel to visit their famil...

Re: Questions about beyond
My ds has loved Beyond this year. He really enjoys the history stories. The texts are wonderful because they are told as stories, often with a child as the main character. My ds was able to relate in a way that would have been harder to do so if the stories were all about adults doing "adult" thing...
